I recently attended a fundraiser for the AfAm firefighters musuem (sp? On a bb, pls forgive). I was very pleased to see the diversity in "our" hairstyles. That may sound silly, but due to where I live, I don't see many of my fellow sistas.

My avatar is from that evening (I am short/relaxed).

And btw (I don't covet married men) but that Battilion chief from "first in" on BET is beautimus in real life!

girl, i feel you. i currently live in SD and i just really miss the east coast right about now. i don't see too much of my kind at all. *sigh* but i did meet a few chicks off here (frm meet ups) and we hang out on a regular.
anyways, to answer your question, i'm currently transitioning and keeping a low mani regimen. so, i wear wigs and braids underneath. DH is getting sick and tired of the wigs, so i'm going to be changing it up upon the beginning of the year.

I live in the L.A. area (well, the Valley)...I wear my hair relaxed and straight most of the time. I'm experimenting with braid outs more often now.

I live in the Valley as well!

Anyway, I do a braidout to stretch my hair and then wear it pinned up.

Valley...checking in. Right now I am back in braids. Speaking of!! If I have to hear "Why did you chop your hair off, just to put braids right back in..." I'll scream. C'mon people...first of all its my hair...second...braids were ALWAYS apart of the plan and lastly..its MY hair. K..rant over.

Braids for the winter...

I usually where my hair in a braid out (see avatar) or in a bun. Today I decided to blow it out and wear it straight.

It is straight alright.... straight humongous! :afro::afro:

I have got to learn how to work the flat iron :perplexed

Baldwin Hills, relaxed, mostly straight and flowin, however right now hiding under a full sew in... That's down my back and fabulous, lol.

All you valley girls

when I go to the valley from now on I'm putting on a wig and dark glasses, like totally:lachen::lachen:

Juss playin

I just moved from the valley up north 20 min away

to the Canyon in the boondocks

oh and need I say how I wear my hair? LOL

I used to be a Valley Girl, but now I live near San Bernardino.

I've been wearing my own hair in mini double strand twists for the past few months, and I feel like this style will be a mainstay for quite awhile.

Northwest Los Angeles (mid-Wilshire district next to Beverly Hills)--Most of the time I wear my hair in a twisted bun.

Hello ladies,
Well I live in the San Gabriel Valley and I have been wearing half wigs for the past few months and taking them off every night to moisturize and seal my ends with castor, olive or jojoba oil. I just recently started wearing my lace front wig and I braided my hair in corn rows underneath. I really like this and think I will be rockin' these for the winter months and try to take it down and wash and deep condition my hair. I like to press and flat iron my hair in the winter because it will stay straight longer because I don't sweat in my head as quickly in the winter:look:.

South south cali - south of the big Rat! :lachen:

I am doing twists and twist outs for the winter. Trying to see if I can wear just my hair this winter. I has been a loooong minute since I have worn just my hair during the winter months. So far so good. We shall see. I love the 3/4 wigs and my extension hair for twists.

I'm a Valley Girl too!

My friend actually wore one the night we went out, it turned out really cute.

Thanks everyone for your responses, it's givin' me idears... Well, in about 8-10 more weeks that is.

new to the valley..its interesting out here..doesn't seem like there is a sense of community or black community that is..n e way..i'm a half wig lover..

my hair is braided under sometimes ( but i swear my relaxed ends don't like to be braided).. so lately i have just been pinning it up under my half wig.. I'll see how that works

i plan to get a sew in '10 so start of the year..
