Soar Scalp

I've been noticing a soar scalp. I will first say that I'm natural and I don't use heat on my hair. The soarness is not all over just in certain place and is to the touch or whenever I move the hair. I've tried massaging and readjusting the placement of bobby pin/ hairpins. I've been natural most of my life and have never experienced anything like this every.

Any theories?

What styles do you usually wear your hair in? Could they possibly be too tight, putting too much tension on your scalp?

I used to experience this in my crown area; extremely sore and extremely itchy. What works for me is the Neutrogena T/Gel Shampoo. Its mainly for seborrheic dermatitis, psoriasis, and dandruff. I don't have these conditions but something in this shampoo heals my scalp (prob the coal tar) I always use it for preventative measures now.

I can't use this stuff I have eczema and really dry hair. This has a sulfate in it unfortunately.

I did wash and gos all summer and now I'm doing twist in my hair until April 2010. My hair is pretty soft so it kind of loose at the root.

I experiences a sore scalp from NG spurt.
I also experience it when I wrap my hair, from not wrapping it in a long time. My hair is trained to a certain style, (wet bun) when I wrap it, certain parts of my scalp is sore.

i have those sore spots too when i'm natural. it hurt to even touch them. i'd never experienced anything like that before. i have noticed that those same spots are really thin but don't hurt when i'm relaxed. when i was natural they were growin in a lot so it may be spots that are having a growth spurt or something.

I didnt know a sore scalp could be from a growth spurt. in that case, I dont mind the pain I experienced these last few days :drunk:. after I washed and DC'ed my hair, the pain went away.

Have you asked anyone to look at it to see if there are any bumps or anything? I actually had oily areas that contributed to acne on my scalp and wouldn't have known if my mom didn't look at it.

I have eczema as well but this stuff works wonder for my dry scalp. I just have to make sure I follow up with a really good moisturizing poo or con to completely not dry out.

I'm natural and I tend to get soreness & itchyness in my crown area. I decided to clarify a few weeks ago with the emphasis being on my scalp and it really helped.

I have also lightened up on the cones that I use. I think I was getting a lot of build up on my scalp. My scalp actually feels quite calm now.

if the pain is from growth then hurt some more. I clarify monthly with bentonite clay and use a non sulfate poo bi-weekly when I henna. Because my skin is so irritable I almost never put anything not even essential oils on my scalp just on the hair, which has stopped the itching. But the soarness just started this summer though and gotten worse. Then again my hair has grown el to sl stretched since june. idk

umm i was gonna suggest tea tree oil mixed with a carrier oil (like jojoba) this is what i used when i had the EXACT problem your having (and im also natural with severely dry scalp), but since you don't use oils on your scalp, IDK, Do you think its Fungus related?

No not fungus. I don't use anything on my scalp because it easily dries. I have no scabs, pimples etc on my scalp. It's dry just sore in the front in certain places.
