And he went on and on about how much he loved working on natural hair. He was so excited when I sat in the chair. He said, "You have the best type of hair. It's so versatile and can do almost anything. I love working on natural hair because the options are endless."

It made me feel so good to be a black woman with natural hair.

Anyway, I just had to share.

ETA: Sorry, Ladies. I can't share pics yet because they are to be posted in a magazine in a few months.

I knew someone was going to come in here and say that. I can't share photos yet because they were for magazine shoot.

But that's besides the point. The whole reason I posted is because other people are recognizing the fabulousness that grows out of our scalp.

It was good to be acknowledged because of it and not have a whole debate about how controversial the style is, how white people look at us as some spectacle because of it etc.

My sister had her hair dyed by a white man this past summer and basically all of his clientele are black women. He raved about her hair the whole time and before she was seen there was a black women who's hair he just finished and her hair was really nice. It's good to know that there are some stylist who isn't afraid to do our hair.

Yup. It's for Ladies' Home JOurnal magazine.

I can't wait for it to come out. I promise I'll share photos asap.

The style was so cute. He pinned it all in the back in sort of a big roll for lack of better words and then had some flyaway curls running along the front.

If only I didn't sing that contract... I need my LHCF sisters to see it.

Why can't you just photoshop it to only show your hair? :perplexed

Back to the main topic. I would let a white male do my hair. After watching that movie Good Hair I would love to let Jason Griggs do a sew in on me. I would trust a (gay) white male to do my hair before I would a white woman.

My theory is that black natural hair is still so new to them, its exciting rather than a burden. We've been taught that natural hair bad and need to be "taken care of" ASAP.

Though I've know of stylists of all races there were scissor happy, in my experience, white stylists are more reluctant to cut hair or cut too much off. The woman that trimmed my hair two years ago seemed to have cut it under magnifying glass. She was soooo careful but she did a great job.

I've had my hair done by a white stylist and it was the best hair cut I'd ever received. She also spend most of my appointment trying to talk me out of a relaxer. Race does not always indicate an automatic appreciation of a certain hair type with as many threads on here with complaints from black and dominican salons mishandling and disrespecting natural hair.

So it was a controversial hairstyle? How so? Did he flat iron it?

I had a white girl cut my hair once. It was NICE but her styling NONONO she tried to blow dry with a round brush then flat iron. This was a chin length do.

best trim an also my very first haircut was by a white woman! she cut my hair into a pixie cut! she did a fab job. the best trim i ever got was from this lady who was really cool. she worked in a black salon too.

Glad you had a good experience. I think White stylist are more intrigued by natural hair than Black stylist. I find a lot of Black stylist are intimidated by natural hair.

I had a blow out a few weeks ago by a White man, at Blow Pro, and it was not what I expected since he specializes in curly hair. Oh well, not all curly hair is the same. He was super nice, although I'd never use him again.

Most of the white stylists that I met were exited and very complimentary about my hair, some were unsure how to handle my hair but so very thankful I walked them through it:lachen:

I never really had any issues with black stylists either

the best trim i ever got was from my indian neighbor/eyebrow lady...she washed/blowdried/flatironed/trimmed my hair for like $20...it wasnt as straight as i expected, but it had nice shine & volume...she trimmed the ends and cut some light layers into it...my ends looked & felt great for months after that.

I've let a white stylist chop all my hair off and she did a great job. She also colored my hair jet black. Like most of y'all said, white stylist aren't as scissor happy. I had to keep telling her to cut it short and it was still longer than I wanted it but I loved the hairstyle. And to hold y'all over until OP posts pics I've attached a before and after from my cut.

the best hair stylist I ever had os white. her natural hair was blonde & curly 3b. Shes great at trimming, cutting, coloring, relaxing & she flatironed me silky str8.

Im so tempted to go back to my texturizer sometimes since I know I can trust my hair with her.

I had my hair done once in Vegas at a hotel:blush: ( emergency)
she said she did Gladys Knight. she did a good job told me I had nice hair.
then she said it a little porous here on the sides... it is!!!

I have someone soft hair but my edges in one spot:swordfigh (above my ears) is a total different texture & the crown of course......

Hey, congrats on your shoot!

Yep, one of my long time stylists is white and she took very good care of my hair. She never over-processed my relaxer and she hated cutting the ends b/c they were always healthy and she wanted me to grow my hair long, but I was trying to keep the same length then.

She said the same things too about the versatility of our hair; our hair isn't difficult, it just needs to be handled more gently.

It's a shame so many stylists can't be bothered to consider and heed what their clients want, in terms of NOT trimming so much.
It seems the stylists that can listen to clients and give them what they want, will be the one's getting business.

I've also had great haircuts from caucasian stylists--men and women.

I truly believe a lot of white people are fascinated with our hair, and secretly wished theirs was like it.

Think about having super pin straight hair all the time, even when its curled the density remains the same. That has to be a drag.

Our hair is so versitile that its amazing...

I had a friend that has type 1 hair (I think, not into typing) and she always complained about it and repeatedly stated how lucky we were and how she wished her hair was courser. She would always have me do the same 80's styles on her that we were wearing, knowing they wouldnt work and she would be very sad and disappointed...

Y'all late!! "The Man" has been all up in and through my head since 2004!! :) He was with me relaxed, transitioning and now fully natural for almost 3 years. I wouldn't let anyone else touch my mane!

My stylist is a white guy the same age as me (26). The first time I was a bit worried but after he washed, detangled, cut and dried my hair to shiny, glamorous perfection, I got down on bended knee and dedicated myself to him so long as he'll put up with me. XD He always does precisely what I asks and always double checks with me when he cuts.

Added bonus: He's cute as hell (but taken. WAH WAAAH)

Is there something wrong with round brushes on our hair? Except for the obvious manipulation...

I've gotten my hair cut by a white stylist a few times, but one time in particular she cut it, blew it out, and flat ironed it. There was a black stylist there side-eying her the entire time and who later "claimed" me and said she would do my hair next time and from then on. She said "I can't believe she used a round brush on your hair", but how come my hair was actually straighter when the white lady did it?
