So I bought these products, and tried them but...

I don't know if I just didn't use them right or if my hair just doesn't like them. First I clarified with Nexxus Aloe Rid because my hair was really, really dirty and then washed with KeraCare Hydrating and Detangling Shampoo. My hair felt great!!! Then I applied Redken Extreme Conditioner. The bottle says leave it on for 3-5 minutes. I left it on for about 10 minutes. Then rinsed it out. My hair felt tangled and brittled. Then I applied Joico K-pak Intense Hydrator. I thought this would solve the problem but:nono::nono::nono:. I was still a tangled mess!!!!!!! Then in hopes to correct this problem I applied Redken All Soft Heavy Cream and it was still horrible!!! I was so disappointed because I spent $40 on these products in hopes that I could use some alternate conditioners other than my usual..KeraCare Humecto (which has recently gotten really watery and doesn't work as well when I get new growth...not sure why) and ORS Replenishing pak (which some people say has protein in it) Im so disappointed!!!!!:wallbash::wallbash: I had to use an ORS replenishing pak just to get my hair back right again. Then I proceeded to air dry instead of my usual rollerset because I was so darn tired from all those conditioning sessions. I'm not sure if my hair just didn't like anything of them, if I just didn't use them right or what. I need to know how I can use these products up (should I add olive oil to them) and move on to something else, and what kind of moisturizing conditioner I should try next?

Please help... thats too much money to go down the drain.

P.S. I was thinking about using Garnier Deep Conditioning Masque since I like their other products...I don't know...I need guidance.

Just out of curiosity -- why did you wash twice?

Only thing I can think of, is perhaps the combo of the conditioners = too much protein? My hair gets tangled, dry and snarly if I use too much protein, so while individually the products might have worked, maybe all together it was an overdose.

Hmm...just reread your post -- if the ORS Pak worked, then maybe it was actually too much moisture? Overmoisturized hair gets mushy, stretchy, and can tangle too. I think you should try them one at a time before ruling all of them out.

I washed wice because my hair is really dry after clarifying. I have to follow up with a moisturizing shampoo. Im gonna wash my hair this weekend, which one would you suggest I use???

washing a 2nd time isnt advised when its already dry...

sounds like you need a DC/EVOO or EVCO treatment ( mixed with you under a heat cap) for about 30 mins followed by a good leave-in/detangler

Basically, there was an overload on the alcohols and proteins. Anytime you apply something to your hair and it makes it tangle and dry, you didn't need it. You basically doubled up on the same conditioner from the looks of it.

I do this to get rid of all the 'cones that I've used previously that tend to block out moisture. As long as you are following up with a moisturizing poo and your hair feels better there's nothing wrong with it. However, you should reduce clarifying to every other week or once a month, not weekly.

ok thanks. SO let me get this right. When I do my hair this weekend I should try shampooing with a moisturizing shampoo or co-wash and then deep condition with olive oil??? Is this right???

my hair loves all soft heavy cream. it only takes 10 minutes without heat to get the job done:lick:

Sounds like protein overload to me. I've never used the Joico tho...but, the Redken doesn't exactly moisturize real tough to me. Its great at making the hair uber soft but not an intensive hydrator.

I would lay off protein for a couple weeks and concentrate on using a good moisturizing DC this weekend, and yes you can add some evoo to kick it up a notch if you like :yep:

The Redken Extreme line is a line of protein-rich conditioners. So you might have had a protein overload. I'd definitely use more moisture-intense conditioners in the upcoming weeks. Also, maybe you should only lather once when you wash--lather really well, and rinse really well, and that might help with the dryness.

Also, the alcohols listed are fatty alcohols. They are not bad for the hair. Don't asume because something has alcohol in its chemical name that it is automatically bad--I used to do that until I started looking up the ingredients to understand what they do. If you're not sure about an ingredient, google it. :)

Like the ladies above I agree you overloaded on protein. I personally love Joico products on my hair - when it needs protein and ONLY with a DC. When I clarify I try to do a moisturizing pre-poo - coconut oil some cheapie conditioner, etc. Then I strip it - I also do a second wash with a moisturizing shampoo such as CON. So that 2 washes total. I then apply Joico K-Pak Intensive Restructuring Deep Penetrating Treatment. I leave it on for 10-30 minutes when I'm lazy. Rinse off and then proceed to DC the crap out of my hair!!!! I mean something super moisturizing like humecto but more recently cholesterol mixed with coconut oil, honey, peppermint EO (for tingle :lick:), and castor oil. I put that on my hair and DC with heat for an hour. When I rinse it off my hair is like butter. I detangle with the conditioner still in my hair and in sections, then I apply my leave-in and seal with vatika oil. I think you should just step up the DC's for a bit and your hair will begin to recover. I do think redken makes some excellent products according to many of the ladies on this board. You just have to make sure you use the right combinations. Good luck :look:

ETA: I also wanted to say I rarely strip my hair any longer. Now I just use baking soda and water and it gets the job done without drying out my hair

I think so. My current regimen is to 1st wash with a clarifying poo (KeraCare 1st Lather) or a protein based poo (Aphogee Poo for Damaged Hair) followed by a moisturizing poo (Keracare Poo). Sometimes I just skip to the moisturizing poo but I don't seem to get good results as when I do the previous. My next step is a light protein conditioner (Aphogee 2 min) followed by a moisturizing DC (CON purple bottle or Keracare Humecto). This works great for my hair since I've been flat ironing weekly. After your last rinse, regardless of what you previously had in your hair, your hair should always be left feeling soft before detangling/styling not dry and brittle.

As far as the EVOO goes, IDK. My hair is not a fan of oil treatments. Of course, you have to find out what works for you and keep changing stuff up until you can find what works.
