I figured since the Transitioner's Support Thread is getting really long and some newer transitioners might not know of its existence, that we would get a new thread going to vent frustrations, successes, post pics of our neg growth, etc.

Me personally, I'm in a hair rut. I've been airdrying my hair in the same ponytail/bun style since April. At first it's because I was in the hospital and sick for a month, but now it's just pure laziness. The way I see it, its the summertime, its hot and humid, and I'd hate to spend x amount of hours doing a rollerset. Plus I ordered OCT so I'll be co-washing everyday religiously (not much difference from what I already do.)

My NG is pretty manageable still. I try not to comb/brush with the exception of the edges. As far as I can tell, my hair is more wavy that it is curly/coily.

What about you?

Hi!
My transition is going smoothly so far.I am 6 months post. I have retaught myself how to manage my NG and natural texture. It can be a bit rough when I am in a rush and I have to slap my head in decent order. I do like to wear my hair straight 1 week per month (salon flat-ironing). I am really enjoying this right now, it brings back so many memories of my natural days. My hair is super wavy and I am so tempted to do a BC. I will keep my hair since the hubby can't seem to fathom the idea of a BC. I did have a rough time around month 5 when I had twists for about 6 weeks and my NG got out of control. I now have a detangle regimen that works great and I am going to concentrate on low manipulation. I have been using Mega-tek for a week now and depending on how much growth I have by Dec. I will reevalute as to if I will do the BC.

So far it's okay. I had braids for 5 wks, actually took them down every 2 weeks, but now I'm done with braids for a little while.

I just got a DB and a trim on yesterday and I'm loving my hair even though it's about 1.5-2 inches shorter now. I will finally return to work on Monday, so I'm hoping my hair will hold up fine for a couple of days.

I'm at the point where I need to find the MOST moisterizing conditioner and leave in to use at home. I don't plan to do a DB more than once a month. This time I let her blow out the length because I knew I needed a trim. But in the future it will be roots ONLY. I only trim every 3-6 months and hope my hair will be back to it's previous length by Christmas.

I think I'm going to start payin gsomeone to shampoo and set my hair for me every 2 weeks... I HATE doing my own hair.

Questions... where do I buy Mega Tek and what are you using to keep your NG moisterized?

Most people bought their Mega Tek from easypetstore.com. Check out the MT/OTC challenge thread because there's a coupon code there for $5.00 off.

So far so good. I'm at 8 months and I just got a rollerset today so I'm enjoying my hair! I think I found a good combination that keeps my hair strong, moisturized, and prevents frizz. I use Ion Clarifying crystal tx, a heavy protein (DRC-28), PM Supercharged Moisturizer, and Porosity Control. I've been doing this for a month now and it's working well.

Next month will be the longest I've ever stretched for. I want to make it to the 12 month mark and see how much NG I have :yep:. I really hope I can stick with this!

ETA: A technique that's really helping is washing my hair, towel drying, applying conditioner, rinsing, and applying conditioner again. I think I got this tip from Southern Tease. Also, I apply all conditioners in sections to make sure everything is coated. This prevents tangles every time. Very time consuming, but worth it.

Apparently what I though was detangling really was not.
I swear half of my hair got combed out in the shower today! But it felt ok...I guess that's why my hair was dreading and matting in the middle! :nono:

I'm just learning now...Month 5 just passed

i want to meet my length goals for the year but i also am so sick of how bad my relaxed ends look w/ my natural hair. i was gunning for APL by December, but the other day, i chopped off 4 inches of relaxed hair on top (and i still have a lot more to cut :ohwell:)

i just got an internship at a bank & i have no idea what to do to my hair. i need to be conservative but there is no way i'm going through the 4-5 hour straightening process for straight hair that will last less than a week & ruin what i have right now :nono:

i'm also concerned because i'm going to london in the fall & it is apparently always drizzling. :perplexed

i should probably get braids but i haven't found a place that will do straight back for less than $50 & use up less than 8 hours of my time (why is that???) :wallbash:

*sigh* these are all my complaints. haha. but i love how my hair feels. i cannot wait until its 100% natural & completely bad ass mass of kinky, coily, thiiick, hair (which it is already well on its way). just have to find the right products & keep on pushing on

I did a protein treatment on my hair today and contemplated rollersetting. Then I got nervous and said *** it and put my scarf on for the air dry.

I purchased my MT from www.saddleuptack.com which is located here in Tampa. I know you live in florida so I don't know if that will save you in shipping costs. You can check it out.

In order to make co-wash days easier I apply the conditioner with a applicator brush onto my dry hair. I apply just like I would a relaxer and I even part through each section and smooth down. LOL! Sometimes, I take each section down while in the shower and apply the conditioner and detangle section one by one and rebraid. Then, put on my plastic cap until finished and get under the hooded dryer. S-curl is my best friend! Check out the link for the full detangle regimen with pics.

I just EXPERIENCED the exact same thing. Apparently I wasn't combing all the way down to the roots. So when I finally did this past weekend, SOO much hair came out. Like a whole head of hair :ohwell:

But, since then, I have had NO matting and it is so detangled. So don't feel bad. I'm on month 6.

Thanks! I don't live in FL though... I live in Atlanta :) I'll still look them up though.

I'm 9 months post. I've been doing twistouts every week. I only comb and brush my NG when I'm detangling.

This is how I apply my conditioner, except I don't use an applicator brush. After shampooing and towel drying I apply conditioner section by section to make sure all of my hair is coated. When it's time to detangle I'm always glad that I took my time applying conditioner.

LOL I hear you. I definitely wasn't rollersetting myself! I really don't know what it is, but my hairdresser can rollerset my hair at 8 months post and the roots come our straight when she takes the rollers out. When I do it, what a freakin mess, roots, length, everything. And I think I've tried rollersetting for the past 4 years. I can only do a good one at 1 week post :ohwell:.

I'm nervous to go back to a salon, I haven't been to one since July 2007 and I'm scared to even try and find a good one. I know how to rollerset, but I'm a little too lazy to just bother right now.

I DO plan on flat ironing 1x a month though.

First of all VivEz daNs lamouR, I'd like to say your hair is looking very nice in your avatar!

Well, I've been transitioning for 6 months now and I think it is going well. However, my styling options have become limited and I've been wearing wigs since March :nono: ! OK, I'm bored with wigs now but I really cannot do buns because my new growth and relaxed hair are so different in texture and I'm never doing a weave again and I won't be doing anything that involves cornrows or braids for a while because that is the reason why I found LHCF in the first place. I got a weave in February which caused severe breakage and hair and scalp trauma. I need my scalp to recover before putting any sort of braids in my hair. I hair is in large, very loose box braids which makes it easy for me as I don't have to deal with my hair for 5 days out of the week (I plait it twice a week). I just moisturise and seal twice a day (concentrating on my ends) and thats it!

I don't think my true texture can be confirmed until my relaxed ends are cut off, but its looking like I'm a 4a in most places. The hair at the back seems to have a looser curl pattern though.

So, to sum it up my transititions going OK :ohwell:. Sometimes I get frustrated at the lack of styling options, but I'm looking at the rewards I will get at the end of my transition.

It is going well. I realized that I like the texture of my natural hair. I do get a little frustrated with shrinkage

Awww thanks for the compliment! Congratulations on your 6 month transition :yep:

I'm contemplating the possibility of getting braids or kinky twists this summer if I don't want to continue this whole co-washing/air drying thing. Then I can do my OCT too and cowash the braids daily :yep:

I'm 7 1/2 months post and my fine hair had been detangling pretty nicely up until this past Monday (wash day). Its beginning to get harder to detangle even with lots of conditioner and this mini fro under my bun is becoming bothersome. I plan on getting box braids ...... real soon.:yep:

i recently decided to transition. i dont really know how many weeks post i am coz i lost count but i know i relaxed sometime towards the end of april so lets just say im 2 months post. i have no special reason for transitioning i just dont feel like relaxing anymore. who knows i might change my mind later on, but right now i dont really wanna relax. its been ok, i was co washing everyday with herbal essences and my hair was very soft it didnt feel like i was almost 2 months post. but now ive run out of it so ive been having to use other conditioners and they do not work as well. (i dnt know if u guys remember me starting a thread about my hair not getting tangles) i now have tangles.

Approaching 6 months and I am seeing my cycle ..

Started off with a sew in ... (missed my real hair)
Began bunning/twist outs/ or trying to wear a wrap ...(missed long hair on my face)
Wore wigs ... (got too hot gave up)
Got Micros ...(didn't care too much for them, took them out in a week)
The back to the weave .... and the cycle continues

Nothing really works for me consistently .. This cycle changes every week/ not month ... If my new growth wouldn't revert I would just wear a wrap consistently ... *sigh* :look: but I'm still hanging in .. No plans of perming or BC'ing
