Hello! Hope everyone is having a good week so far. Unfortunately my week will be filled with lots of papers and studying. I thought I would give you a little insight as to why I decided to become natural. I received my first relaxer when I was about eleven years old. I BEGGED my mom to let me get one because a boy at school told me I needed one. Bad Decision! The hair stylist relaxed my hair bone straight and I had a lot of breakage. After a year or two I changed to a different stylist and my hair looked wonderful! I went to her for about seven years but during the last two years my hair became weak and unhealthy. She tried to rejuvenate my hair and even tried taking me off relaxers for a while. She didn't tell me how to take care of my hair so I continued going to her bi-weekly and she pressed and flat ironed my new growth. The pressing just caused my hair to break off even more. In the meantime she was doing my mother's hair and ended up changing her hair color from black, to green, to purple. She also used hair color on my mother's hair without testing it first and an allergic reaction resulted. My mother was left screaming from pain and had to go to the doctor for the scalp burns. Long story short I eventually left and went to a DIFFERENT stylist. He ended up telling me my hair was to thin and cut off my hair on one side and left the other side long...then glued in a piece to make it look even. I had never had weave before so I had no clue what was going on. He also relaxed my hair without basing it first...and washed it out with cold water. I FINALLY said enough is enough and decided to go natural. I had always wanted to go natural, just didn't know where to start. I came across youtube and watched everyone's video and was directed to this website!
Hair thinning on one side:
Had to cut it all off:
I then transitioned at this length(transitioned for 9 months). It was very HARD because I couldn't do any of those cute transitional styles. When my hair became long enough I did bantu knot outs.
I'm finally all natural and when I stretch the hair I'm at about the bottom of my neck. I guess that's moderate progress since I started out with a tapered cut.
Here is a pic of my first twist out (wore it today)!
