Today was the fifth anniversary since my last relaxer. I have been fully natural for 4.5 years. After 5 years I hate to say that I am still clueless is to how my hair works. What I have learned is that my hair hates for me to touch it. I have had numerous setbacks in my growth track including multiple cuts every year. If I pull my hair it does touch my brastrap but because my hair loves shrinkage it wont touch it on its own. Speaking of shrinkage I am still amazed at the difference. I am terrible at this blowdry and straight thing. When I leave the hairdresser it looks like a perm but when I do it, it's disaster as you can see below. I have not posted much but I don't want to be a stranger either.

This is what it is now. Sadly there isn't much progress in the past year because I had cut it so much but this is where I am now. SOrry about the hair in the background. My hair still sheds like crazy and I have not quite understood why it does so much. I wont worry about that too much unless my hair starts to thin.

I love your hair. It looks great. We have the same texture except I'm relaxed. I think you have done a wonderful job. Wow at the shrinkage.

:wow: that's some major shrUnkage. Your hair is lovely! Hmmm I would be wearing my hair out alll the time... hmmm so maybe I'll texlax

Wow, I'm always amazed at shrinkage photos. By the time I got to your last photo I was like, "oh wow, her hair is pretty long." Looks like you've been doing a great job with your hair inspite of the shedding. Shrinkage, no justice for natural heads.:spinning:

thanks. The shrinkage pic btw is wet hair so if it was dry it would have been shorter. When my hair is wet the hairs closer to the top of my hair don't hang at all. The hairs closer to the nape hang a little but has to be drenched in water. It took me 4 hours to do this today and I am fighting for it not to be one big poof when I wake up in the morning.

Hi! My name is Jessica, and although I'm new, I may be able to help you with your problem. I went without a relaxer for my whole life and always had straight hair; the only reason I switched to a relaxer is because my sister needed a test dummy to try a professional one out on for her cosmetologist exam. When you're about to blowdry your hair, put a smoothing product with Dimethecone in it, if I'm spelling it right. Next time you're in the beauty supply, look for a good one. I have a really good one, but it's actually a Japanese product that can't be found in the USA (I used to live in Japan) that I love. The dimethecone has beautiful straightening and frizz-ease effects. Hope it works for you, it did me well for years!

You've got some gorgeous hair:yep:. After seeing all these lovely heads of natural hair, I give myself another year or two of processed hair (got some goals to meet) and then I'm transitioning.
