Slept w/o your hair covered or on satin pillow for 1 night = visible damage?

Is this psychosomatic, or did I really hurt my hair?

Y'all...I was having some insomnia for a few days and yesterday around noon I got in bed. Well...it's almost 9am and I just got up. But I literally laid down in bed (not at my own satin pillowed house) and just passed out.

I wake up this morning...and my hair literally feels different. Like, dry, and needing some TLC.

I asked my SO and he said I'm crazy...that my hair is just fine. He grabbed my ponytail and put my ends in my face like, "Do you see any splits?" lol But in MY eyes, I think I did.

Am I being paranoid or have you all noticed any difference after one night of not taking care of your hair?

I feel the same you do when I slip up and make that mistake :perplexed. My hair feels dry and crunchy (all over my head), and I think to myself there has got to be some major breakage here!!

I know its not a good thing, but I don't think it's tearing our hair up doing it just once or twice. Just make sure you moisturize it real good and baby it back tonight.

Its so funny you mentioned this. I just slathered my hair with moisterizer, sealed w/ coconut oil and threw on my bonnet because I went to bed last night on a cotton pillow and no satin cap. When I woke up, my hair felt dry, straw-like. Dont worry, I dont think you caused any damage, but your hair feeling dry is NOT in your head :nono:

This definately happens. I have noticed that if I fall asleep on a cotton pillow my hair is very dry and straw like when I wake up and it is only on the side that I sleep on. Doing this once will not damage your hair but doing it repeatedly will.

I went to bed with a satin scarf. But, last night I had a horrible dream that I didn't. And when I woke up in my dream I looked on the pillow and sheets and there were tiny pieces of broken off hair everywhere. The pieces were straight though and I have nappy hair so it couldn't have been my hair.

I do know when I've gone to bed w/o scarf pieces will break off, but the pieces are curly napps...small pieces here and there of little curls.

Maybe I dreamed about you?

I know that when I didn't wear my satin hat for like 3 nights my endz look brittle, and not as healthy as before...I might even have to dust :perplexed

Sleeping on cotton sucks the moisture out of my hair. That said, you probably don't have as much breakage as you think, your hair just doesn't have that cool, moisturized feeling. Wash and condition to start over, and I bet you will feel right as rain.

I don't know if it would actually cause damage if it was only done one time, but I do know that on the occasions when I've done that I can definitely see and feel a difference the following day. Not so much in terms of damage, but in terms of ease of styling, moisture, etc.

TML...wow. Interesting dream!!!

My hair was flat ironed so it wasn't me, LOL.

I said *was* flat ironed cuz it's got cholesterol in it right now.

I know my man thinks I am crazy :lachen: Poor thing just shook his head at me.

I try hard not to let this happen because my hair ALWAYS breaks when I do. Whatever ever side I'm laying on will have little wisp of pieces sticking out when I get up. My hair is really fine so once it dries out it breaks easily. I have to be really mindful not to fall asleep or stay asleep without something on my hair.:nono:

I did this last night and I swear there was some uneccessary shedding that I know wouldn't have happened had I covered my hair last night... oh well.. I'll try my best to make sure this doesn't happen again

i don't think 1 NITE is gonna do any damage. If u keep doing it then eventually it will. For the last 2 nites, my bonnet slipped off my head so i've been sleeping on cotton for the past 2 nites:blush::blush::blush::blush::blush: on 15 weeks post hair at that!!! But i'm not going crazy about it. Im washing today so any moisture i lost this weekend will get replenished in a couple of hours:grin:

i highly doubt that just 1 night of sleeping without covering your hair will cause significant damage. maybe after several weeks of not covering your hair... but not one night. during midterms i'd get so tired, i'd conk out on the bed with zero regard for putting my bonnet on, and my hair was fine that whole week.

heck, when i was a little girl, my mother made me wear a cotton scarf to bed at night. and my hair was past APL back then.

I don't think you're trippin at all. I fell asleep not too long ago and was way too tired to cover my head. When I woke up, my hair was sooo dry and felt really brittle. It even LOOKED different, really dull :ohwell:

Just give it some TLC today, slather on some deep conditioner and lube it up

I've done it before and it made my hair dry and crunchy.

Same here, and mine looked a hot mess to boot! Interestingly enough, I fell asleep today on my couch (which is microfiber), and my hair feels great! Cotton is the devil (and to think I used to have a COTTON SCARF!) :hair::paperbag::mad: :lachen:

I have been on business trips where I forgot my silk scarf or bonnet. I ended up sleeping with a shower cap on. I am too scared to sleep on cotton!!!

Suerte, it's sooo mental, but I am the same way! Your hair more than likely is just a little dry for the moisture being sucked away from the cotton pillow.

I think it does. I can't go to sleep without a scarf on now. Even if I'm just lounging in bed, I cover my hair. I can tell the difference.

I had food poisoning a few days ago and was out for about 3 days and did not care. I did look on my pillow once while tossing in a fit of delirium and saw one hair - I then proceeded to pass out, but with a smile on my face. Yay! One hair! I washed my hair today and it looked like my hair grew :spinning:

....not unless you had some wild and crazy all over the bed....ooonie Macoonie sex....you should be ok.
