Thank you! Well, how do I feel about blow drying? I don't do it unless it's an emergency!

Blowdrying really works against your ability to retain moisture because its whole purpose is to remove excess moisture from the shaft very quickly. Not only does it remove moisture from the outer shaft, but it also evaporates moisture from the shaft internally.

Also, damage to the cuticles can occur from disorganized types of blow drying-- like just blowing the hair all over. You want to be sure that you are directing the air flow DOWN the hair shaft not AT the hair shaft. This helps sheet the excess water downwards, which helps the hair dry faster and keeps the natural cuticle orientation in tact as well.

But even with the best heat protectants, a blowdryer's main job is to remove moisture. Otherwise it wouldn't be any good at drying your hair. For textured hair types, maintaining a high moisture balance is very important and very hard to do. So I say use irregularly, and use with caution. Blowdryer damage can catch up with even the strongest heads of hair. Some will show faster than others, but it will catch up.

For heated drying, hooded dryer heat is really the better option. The heat here is more controlled and even. But even with this, you have to be careful about "hot spots." In general, the less heat you throw at your hair, the better off it'll be.
