Sigh... Apparently More Hair is Better?

Ok... I've been wearing my natural hair for almost a year, but have been wearing ponytails and quick weaves, esp. during the winter. Now it's getting warmer. I'd rather wear my natural hair and I think the crown of my hair has suffered a bit. I've been advised to wear it out so it can "breathe".

But it appears that when I have more hair on, e.g., quick weave or ponytail, I get more compliments. I get more attention:look: :ohwell:

So I suppose I'm just venting here and looking for a plan on how to wear my hair in the warmer months....

And I already know the "confidence talk", e.g., "just do you!" "Just wear it!" and so on and so forth.... But I wuld feel better if I had some kind of plan....

Any advice?

Yeah I get more attention with more hair too. I guess it comes with the territory? I switch my styles very often so it doesn't really bother me though.

What about adding tracks only in the back and sides (a partial sew-in) So your crown can get some air; but you'll still have length.

OK. I have an idea.

My girlfriend did this. Depending on the texture of your hair, buy some hair on tracks that matches the texture. Get some little plastic hair combs like these
small hair combs

Then you cut the tracks and sew small pieces onto the combs and you can just ad them to various spost in your hair. It will allow your hair to breathe but you can still have your desired fullness.

It is important that the hair you buy matches the texture of your hair or ith will look all wrong.
I hope this helps.
What kind of hair style do you normally wear?

I dunno Relaxer, you've always struck me as the self-confident type. If you are confident in your hair (which I presume you are because you said you wanted to wear it out), I really would just wear my hair over the summer. You could wear it in styles that stretch your length more, like twists, braids and things. Not sure how long your hair is, but you could band it or blowdry it to stretch it before twisting. You could also probably roller set it to stretch it.

I've been wearing a curly ponytail or a quick weave.... I guess I don't mind the quick weave.... I would like to have a better routine to help out my crown, e.g., maybe getting it cornrowed (and maybe weaved up?) and leave the perimeter out so I can wear it up or down....

The perimeter's doing great. Length in front touches the middle of my nose stretched and the back is almost past my neck (but my neck's a little short).

Girl, I put on a good act! LOL! Seriously, though. I have reached the point of no return about caring about what people think or say...

I think for me it's needing to be able to polish up my look, esp. now that it's summer and all....

I'm just figuring out how to twist the hair and I hope to promote myself to roller sets soon. The crown is a bit shorter than the perimeter so I'm not sure what to do with it....

I am scheduled for a much needed trim next Thursday (May 17). Hopefully the stylist will be able to offer some tips re. stretching the hair, twists, twistouts, etc.

It pains me, but I agree. My hair is natural and I definitely get more attention when wearing a wig or a phony pony.

I think it has to do with people equating shiny, long hair with health. We all know that isn't true, but I think people do.

I don't even wear tracks or weaves and I LOVE THIS IDEA! I love that it's not sewn in. I could stick a few combs in at the nape to add a few inches to my length then take 'em out later. Awesome!

I am in the south and it is not uncommon to see women with long hair. My male friends all tell me that men like women with long hair. I don't know how true it is. I just know when I flat iron my bsl I can't get anything I want out of him.

Honestly, I think that as long as you provide people with the opportunity to compare, people will continue to prefer one over the other.

Once I did try to wear a phony pony, but just couldn't pull the trigger to wear it to work. I sort of felt that once I gave folks the opp to see me with long hair (again), some folks would ALWAYS want to see me with the longer hair. So, I have worn my natural hair--as is--since my BC. As such, most folks don't seem to remember what I look like with long hair anymore. Now, some people CAN tell the diff from whether I band (stretch) my hair or wear it in a shake and go (some ask if I've cut my hair), but no one's really pining anymore over the hair I used to have. But I think they would if I switched up my style from long to short and back again.

So my advice--wear your hair out all summer unless you get braids to shake thing up. People will start loving your hair because of the curls, waves, and general big sexy hair and they'll forget about the weaves and ponies after a while. People seem to dig my hair, even more than my arm pit length relaxed hair. People loved it then because it was long. Now they dig it for other reasons.
