Should you wash more if you're in the sun a lot?

I take public transportation to school, and it's a 2 hour journey. Most of that time I'm waiting for the bus/BART outside. Yesterday, I noticed that my hair felt like it was "baking." Since my hair was dry already, it felt even worse when I got home. Should I wash more often? I'm still trying to figure out my wash schedule. My hair can't handle being cowashed/rinsed everyday, but it can handle being misted. I hate cowashing, btw, I prefer to use a moisturizing poo. Should I wash every other day?

Hmmm. I took public transportation for many, many, many years myself. With the sun damage and pollution, I changed up my routine by using a parasol—yes, a PARASOL! —most days. If anyone was ever in Massachusetts and saw a lady with a pink parasol......that was me!!!! :lachen: :lachen: :lachen: I got some funny and/or interested looks, but my hair was not baking. I also wore sunscreen on my hair to protect it from UV damage. Wearing my hair in a phony pony up also helped.

However, to combat the dryness, caused by sun, sweat, air, and pollution, I started washing my hair more often about every 3 days because I did not have time to do it more often. At night, I always infused by hair with moisture as well, and kept it covered. I hope this helps! :)

Thanks for the reply! You actually used a parasol?! LOL!! :lachen: Did you use actual sunscreen on your hair, or a leave-in with sunsreen in it? I think every 3 days would be great for me, because I noticed if I go 4 days or longer, my hair starts to get dry no matter how much moisture I put in it. For moisure, I spritz my hair with bottled water and seal it with oil. It works great for me!

Girl that sun is a killer. I noticed that if I don't moisturize more (while in FL) that I would be in trouble!

One thing that I do recommend is spraying your hair with some heat protector or slide on some silicone serum before going out. It creates a little barrier.

Thanks, Mizani! Yeah, I thought my hair was going to catch on fire, it was so dry! How often did you wash while in FL? Is there an alternative to cones? My hair HATES them.

I did my same wash schedule except I laid the moisturizer on thick!! You can try using an oil instead of cones. Or just do as I did, extra moisturize.

Oh, ok, thanks! I usually just spray bottled water on my hair and seal with oil, but I think I'll start using my Elucence MB conditioner more instead of only after I wash. It's really moisturizing.
