I have couple different leave ins that have mineral oil in them, should I just use them up to get rid of them or just trash them?? Will they cause more harm to my hair than good?

Have they been working for you? if so then keep using them until they are gone, but if they are causing you problems then trash them, Some people can still use a mineral based mosturzer on their hair and some can't.

HTH!!

ITA! I myself don't use them b/c my hair/scalp don't like them. I don't want them over time to block my follicles slowing down growth either. Now My hair/scalp is very picky in what goes on it. Sensitive if you will, so I choose to go a more natural route, and that works for me :) BOTTOM LINE: do what works for you :)

I have stuff that has mineral oil in it and my hair behaves great with it (humectress) then there are others that my hair hates. I say if it's working for you just use them up, while looking for others.

ITA! :yep:

BTW, if a product doesn't work for me, I'll mix it w/ something else and give it another try or just give it away to someone else.

I agree with the other ladies that it depends on how it works for you. Mineral Oil tends to coat the strands without really moisturizing for me, so I stay away

Its not a big deal if the MO is in conditioners and other rinse out products... but in a moisturizer :ohwell:-- if you think its giving you problems I'd set it to the side. I hate throwing stuff totally away though.:ohwell: Rather than chunking it, you can use the product in the place of an oil to seal in a real moisturizer with. . . until its gone.

Thanks ladies. I think I'm going to try to use it to seal in another moisturizer like Sistaslick said. I just hate to throw out products, and I'm such a PJ.

A good way to use it up would be to melt it and add it to your conditioners or shampoo's for extra moisture.

It depends...Is the mineral oil the first ingredient? What order is the mineral oil in on the list of ingredients. I have some products with mineral oil. It doesn't bother me b/c i wash my hair often. :)

Hi RabiaElaine,
if they work for you then keep them! If there is no outward damage then why throw them away, they are not cheap and if they work what is the harm? Everyones' hair is different what works for one does not necessarily work for another.

I agree. I have tried all types of moisturizers without mineral oil in an attempt to avoid it (UBH, Carrot Oil Creme, BBD Stretch Creme, etc.) and none of them seemed to do the trick for me. I recently picked up Elasta QP Moisturizer which contains mineral oil and I love it. My dryness, frizziness and breakage have been significantly reduced since using this product.

I have / use several products that contain mineral oil (hasn't bothered my hair). If those products are working for your hair, I say keep on using them.

Ok, when I got serious about hair care back in October '05 I took the mineral oil thing very seriously and dumped a lot of products that contained it. Well this week I forgot my NTM leave-in at a friend's house, and had to use Motion's Oil Moisturizer (which I traded in for NTM back in October). I rediscovered why I love that stuff, my air-dried hair was soft and stayed moist for days. I'm going back to Motions, I'm happy because it's cheaper too!

So I say, if it works, use it!
