texturize my hair? I have not had I perm since Dec. I have some new growth and I am not sure if I should texterixe it by leaving a perm on for a few minutes or just relax it all the way.

Or should I let my hair grow out some more and just were braid-outs? I will have to admit though that I am not a braid-out expert. Sometimes they come out great and other times ... well let just say cousin it from the adam family asked why I did not attend the last family reunion.

I am a 4/b with thick hair that is permed.
P.S. Has anyone tried Bantu Knots with relax hair and then let it down? How did it turn out when you took them down?

I'm in the same situation. Also sweettrini has a post regarding this. She had a talk with a stylist. I'll bump it for you.

Also, I have done the bantu knots. It makes my hair nice and curly. Of course, I have 8 months of new growth so I'm a little puffy at the roots, but I am not opposed to big hair.

Nope. I would suggest that you use a full relaxer on your hair. I use Motions mild formula and I love it! I would also suggest that you use Affirm 5-1 reconstructor after the relaxer to normalize that PH and repair any damage. Following the treatment, you should roller set by using IC leave in treatment ( by fantasia)

I think that it all depends on how you're most comfortable and how much time you want to dedicate to doing your hair. If you get it bone straight, you may end up spending more time, roller setting, hot curling or whatever. If you just texturize, you may require less styling time.

I've read that it's not recommended (or possible)to texturize previously relaxed hair (with the exception of new growth). From my understanding, the texturizer is the same chemical as the relaxer, it's just left on for a shorter time, so it seems like no damage would be done. However, a relaxer permanently changes the structure of the hair, so once it's been relaxed it's not possible to regain the curl pattern on the hair beyond the new growth. You can keep trying the braidouts. Twistouts are another option as well as spiral sets, roller sets, straw sets etc... to get a curly or wavy look. :-)
