Okay..many of you know that I have been a little down about my short hair. I'm now over it..and I want to help other people to be over it too. Many of you mentioned that first comes health, then comes length. You ladies have helped me so much with health. I had no ideal about protein, deep conditioning..sealing..none of this before the forum..and I thank you (and so does my hair).

The point of this thread is to help to encourage ladies with short and/or damaged hair that it's all about health first. After all..who wants to see someone with a head full of damaged hair:ohwell:. So I hope everyone can post their feelings..struggles and advice on the thread. I know that the main purpose of the forum is to help women with their hair..but I think a lot of you all know how it feels to start out. Thanks again to all who have helped me and guided me! LOVE YOU!

I agree that health is more important than length. But the nice thing about short hair is that you can start fresh (if you cut off all of the damage) and enjoy your progress daily as it grows back.

Awesome! The cool thing about having short hair is that you get to essentially track your progress from the beginning (e.g.--learn what works and what doesn't).

I am growing out my hair from a short cut and it chronicles all the trials I face and provides encouragement too! :yep:

I really appreciate this post!!! My hair is shorter than it's been in a long time due to damage.

Right now I'm feeling good because I know that it is not impossible to grow my hair long again and I know it will grow. But the really important thing I have been getting from this forum is the enthusiasm that the members show in taking care of their hair. I'm in this position 'cause I got lazy and put my hair into the hands of others. From that experience I learned that nobody loves my hair like I do and I need to act like I do with a willingness to use my time for taking care of me...not just my hair. And in the few weeks of my membership, I have grown to enjoy working at my hair again and I am very excited about the signs of progress that I'm making. Not only is my hair getting better, but also my skin and nails. Bottom line is there is never a time when one shouldn't love and appreciate herself as is.

That's been my slogan. I rather have very short burt healthy hair, than long and damage hair. I'm very short now, and i dont care, people still looking at me in the street LOL

Girl, short hair, don't care!!!

I have been SO in love with my hair since my BC, I think I want to keep it this length:look:

It's SOOOOOO easy to take care of and I can still make it really big and fly, but it basically just grazes my shoulders in the back when straightened and is ear length in the front....I <3 my shorter hair!!!

Short is it!! A great time to get your regimen down and document how your hair reacts to various products so you wont ruin it in the long run..

Starting over completely (I BCed for the second time to go natural and stay natural this time) and it's taking getting used too...but people (read: men) seem to like the change. LOL!

It's good that you are changing the way you think about your hair. When I first started I thought my hair was doomed to be a certain length. And it took me a long time before I saw a difference in my hair. The first year was very uneventful. And then I began to notice a fullness about my hair before I saw any length. And it became more healthy and I enjoyed that. I have never seen my hair so think in a very very long time. And then it became more about the health and not so much how long I can get it and before you know it it was started to grow. Just be patient and focus on overall health.

I love your haircut, Shasha - if I ever cut my hair short, I want it to look like yours.

OP- rock out with your short hair!

Great thread! I decided to get back to my hair. No more tracks right now. This thread is right on time.

Are there any short naturals that press their hair?

Short hair, don't care!!!!

I actually cut all my hair off for a change and to cut out all of my Beyonce Blonde hair color out. I love my short hair. It healthy and I was able to get back to my 3B/3C natural texture (it would not curl up anymore after dying it so much). Plus i get to grow my hair all over again from scratch. I have done this before and I would do it again anytime my hair needs to be healthy. Health over length is always been my motto.

Your hair is prettiful!!

Thank you. It's a lil' different from the pic in my avatar. I've tried so many things that my hair didn't like. So many setbacks, wigs, weaves, etc. I just want to get reacquainted with my hair and nurse it back to health.

A short cut it will be and I'll grow it out from there. Hopefully I can be patient throughout this process.

Short hair, don't care!!!!!

I started off my hhj only wanting long hair. Once my hair started to grow I realized that long hair with scraggly see through ends and without the appearance of health is unattractive and useless. I've cut my hair many times to shorter lengths on my journey, for the sake of healthier hair. It may take me twice as long to reach my goal...but when I get there it will be with beautiful hair!!!

Me and you are >here<:yep:. I wanted long hair so bad that I was barely trimming, hanging on to disgusting ends for what?:nono: I recently had this same epiphany and have decided that it is not so much the length that I care about but the health. I can honestly say that my hair is healthy now, and please beleive if you knew where I started that is a huge accomplishment.

I DID IT!! I'm wig and weave free. No, I don't have any pics yet, but I'm totally unveiled right now. I was crazy nervous because I've been weavin and wiggin' it since 2005. Started out as fun and then I tried so many crazy things on this board and my hair just had way too many setbacks.

Thank you ladies for this thread. It was very encouraging. My hair feels so healthy. I was sooo nervous about revealing my hair that I couldn't sleep. My own brother didn't know it was my hair. I kinda thought he didn't like it and if he didn't, so what! His response was, "You always wear wigs, so I didn't know." Ouch! To each his own, but I feel like so many of us (I'm definitely guilty) wear weaves and wigs now that we've lost the simplicy of our own beautiful hair and all that it takes to manage it.

I LOVE Henna and Indigo and my new short style. Just looks elegant.

I still don't know all the things my hair needs, but I do know this. My hair needs simplicity!! My budget can't handle PJ'ism, so I'm sticking with the AO GBP and HSR. I also have Sebastian 2+1 conditioner. I'll continue to use that and Sebastian laminates (for frizz). I have a basic moisurizing shampoo and I oil my edges/nape every night with castor oil and my entire scalp 2x a week. This castor oil has been nothing short of a miracle. I'm seeing growth with that alone. JC Nourish and shine is also a keeper. My hair thrives on deep conditioning.

Thanks, thanks and thanks again.
