I used this for the first time last night solo and I think it's a keeper. I've found a natural detangler!!!! Anyway, for the ladies who use this, a few questions...

How do you use it?(With henna, by itself, with conditioner.....)

How long do you leave it on your hair?

How long have you been using it?

What benefits have you noticed?

Thanks so much!!!:)

Great thread!!!

What did you mix this with, and how long did you leave it on?

I have a box of this in my cabinet, but I haven't used it yet. I was planning to mix a little into a future henna mix.

I can't wait to read the responses.

I am so wrong after a great post on this i bought this, diluted it (didn't make a paste) and used it to wash my hair even though it's in braids! It actually came out making my scalp feeling great and my new growth felt stronger, even though i wouldn't recommend anyone using it on braids but i managed to get all the bits out. Will try again when i get my braids out in about a week and post.

I put coconut oil on for about an hour and then washed it out with the shikakai paste. Next time I plan to mix it with conditioner(and leave out the coconut prepoe) to see which way I prefer. I will definitely be adding it to my henna mix in the future. I would love to be able to replace my shampoo with this.

The only thing I don't like is that it is VERY powdery. I feel like I need to wear a mask over my nose and mouth while pouring this stuff out.

I use the bar. Its easier to handle. The powder seems to drying and you have to add reetha to get the soapy effect. Saves me alot of time. I bought it here. She is a BHM member.

Can you tell me about your experiences with the bar?

To be honest, It was one of the best shampoos I have ever tried.

I did the amla treatment overnight with a cap. Then in the morning I got in the shower and first wet my hair then lathered the bar in my hands. I glided the suds down my hair shaft then concentrated on the scalp, ect.

The soap just glided on really smooth. I have never experienced that before.

I rinsed and noticed that my hair was clean, but not stripped feeling. Also my curls were more defined. I am a 3c.

I like it. :D

In the instructions it states to only do it after the oil treatment. So I am guessing that its not like Cream of Nature, ect.

The only problem is that you will have to get a soap dish for it to store it in a dry area.

How do you use it? I mix mine with conditioner

How long do you leave it on your hair? 20-30 min

How long have you been using it? about a month now

What benefits have you noticed? stronger hair

I really thought this was a conditioner more so than a poo. Does anyone use it for a conditioner?

Its a conditioner only when reetha is not added. It becomes a shampoo when you add reetha.

I use it as a shampoo(like it better) . Like stated earlier, I use the bar. The ingredients are shikakai, reetha, methi, henna and amla extracts.

I must admit I go through a sneezing frenzy when I open it. You might as well opened up a bottle of cayenne pepper and wave it in the air!!!

Interesting!! Thank you for starting this thread - I have half a box of this left, and I've been thinking about using it as a shampoo - I might have to try it this weekend!

I purchased the Shikakai oil and used it both w/ my henna mixture and again w/ the deep conditioner after I wash out the henna. It smells sooo good and made my hair really soft and shiny.

HELLO ALL:clap:

I USED SHIKAKAI THE FIRST TIME WITH WATER. I USED IT AS INSTRUCTED AND RINSED. I AIR DRIED MY HAIR AFTERWARD, AND WAS AMAZED AT HOW SHINY, STRONG AND SOFT MY HAIR WAS.

THE SECOND TIME I ADDED TO MY HENNA WITH , AND THE RESULT WERE JUST AS NICE. I ONLY USED HALF THE BOX THAT TIME, BUT NEXT TIME I WILL USE THE ENTIRE BOX, A 50-50 MIX ALONG WITH HENNA.

Hi, I used it as a shampoo rinse. I soaked 2 tbl in warm water, then strained. I used the strained liquid to rinse my hair. It was okay but I guess I had used too much Vatika oil in my hair the night before, because it was a little bit too oily. Buy my hair was okay.

I took the leap and odered the Shikakai oil too to go with the bar and it was the TRUTH!:D

Natalie, the bar is on the site. Its www.hairveda.net They have the oil available too.

Cant mess with a good thing. Im hooked:grin:

I am telling you these Ayurvedic products are really incredible. I found the shikakai soap at an Indian store and used it after I did the amla and jasmine oil conditioning.

I liked it and the cost was very reasonable. Will be using these regularly.

This is kinda off topic, but tomorrow I'm gonna see if I can find this and I was wondering, how is it pronounced? Is it shic-ak-i?

In response to mscocoface

You aint neva lied!:lachen:

I am so tempted to get that Vatika Frosting too.

Edited to add Its pronounced Shee kah kie, Diva

I ordered the oil and the cream. I use both to baggie nightly. Tonight, I am conditioning with the powder, mixed with conditioner. I think I'll leave it on overnight. My hair seems to like that...

What is the cream like Serenity?
I loves the shikakai oil:D

Update: I used shikakai powder in my DC last week, and it was wonderful. My hair felt really smooth, thick, and strong. I like it, and I'm looking forward to henna & indigo.

Update on Shikakai Shampoo:

I purchased a Shikakai shampoo bar www.hairveda.net to use. I had soaked my hair in vatika/castor oil for about 4 hours (covered in a plastic cap under my towel). I rinsed the oil out of my hair, used my hands to create lather from the shampoo bar, and then focused on my scalp. I did notice that my hair was very easy to wash. Usually it gets tangled but I was able to glide my fingers through my hair :) . I rinsed it off with water and then proceeded to condition.

After my hair was shampooed and conditioned it was very soft. It didn't feel any softer than it usually does since I've been pre-pooing w/th the vatika and castor oil combo.

So out of 5 thumbs, I'll give the Shikakai shampoo bar 3 thumbs up. It was nice but I don't feel compelled to purchase it again.
