sorry if this has been talked about in another thread but i shed alot after i wash it and its wet. Im sure im shedding because the hairs has the little white bulb on the end of it. Im going to go bald at this rate!! /images/graemlins/cry3.gif

I dont know if this is what i always do since i really never payed close attention to my hair since i joined the forum. Is there something i can do to stop it?

Usually, the "shedding" you collect while washing the hair are loosed hairs (hair that's already been shed) that haven't been removed from the hair prior to washing.

Also, from my own experiences, I've found that this can be minimized if not avoided by thoroughly detangling, combing, finger combing, even brushing w. certain brushes to remove these loosed hairs before shampooing.

I am so glad that you asked this question. I got my hair washed yesterday and the new shampoo girl combs my hair while I was still in the sink. I could sense that a lot of hair was coming out so when I got up I just glanced in the sink and there was this HUGE ball of hair. I could not decide if this girl manhandles my hair too much during shampooing, if the shedding was normal, or if I should tell her to comb after she at least blots my hair dry. Since I very rarely wash my own hair and I have never really paid attention before, I dont have anything to compare my experience to... Does anyone know if it is better to comb after toweling or while soaking wet???

Are you guys using a good detangler? and a Wide tooth comb?
This helps me, when I'm done I actually shake me head up and down and this detangles some, then I add a detangler and shake my head up and down again and after this the comb glides through...no problem.

It actually takes me just a couple of minutes to detangle my hair (about an inch below my shoulder), but my hair still sheds, though I only use a wide tooth comb and my fingers. I guess it's due to what Carlie said about loose hair not being to get out between washings.

I think it's hard to compare one person's amount of shedding with another's. So it's hard to say what is "normal."

But I've noticed that if I am EXTRA careful, use lots of conditioner, and slowly work through my hair with my wide tooth comb that I do lose less hair than if I really go at it. I think it is possible to pull out your hairs (white bulb and all). So you may want to make sure you are being as gentle as you can be.

But what's funny is I've noticed that I shed a lot more hair when I wash it after wearing a twistout for a week than I do if I wash it after wearing it pressed. So I think certain styles do cause me to possibly get my hair more tangled in the first place, thusly, more hair shed while detangling.

Anyway, I haven't discovered anything yet that 100% stops shedding.

Yes, it's true that the roots of hairs in these early stages of telogen may be pulled out before they are quite ready to come out, especially if the hair is shampooed more energetically than usual. However, as long as your scalp is healthy, I wouldn't worry about going bald because usually those hairs that you see after shampooing have already been replaced by new hairs. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

My mom sheds excessively when she washes her hair too, and in her case I don't think its so much hairs that have already been shed. Anyway I used Emergencee on her hair twice (so far) and her shedding has cut down, it's not down to where I would like to be, but its not as much as it used to be.

thanks so much everyone for the replies!

Carlie: what u said makes sense. When my hair is dry i dont shed any hair really. I dont like to mess with my hair and i dont comb or touch it much so the hair that shedded's only chance to get out is when i wash it.

Lulu: thanks for the compliment i use designer's touch right now =)

thanks everyone!!!
