Hi Ladies,
I'm still in search for the "mother" of all moisturizers. :lachen:I've been reading and seeing a lot about Shea Butter. My hair is like a 4a/4b, my daughter's is more coarse, maybe 4c or 4d if there is such a thing. :yep: Our hair drinks moisture and we go through ORS Carrot (the family size) in like 3 weeks . I see that Shea Butter is a good moisturizer and a little goes a long way. So is there a particular brand I should try? I know everyone was raving about Shealoe from Hairveda, but she's still closed. :perplexed

I wanted to try some from From Nature with Love. Should I mix it? Should I get SheaAloe from them?

Any suggestions would be great!

TIA

I buy my shea butter from Nasabb. Unlike FNWL its is unrefined. I have very thirsty hair also- what helps is that I spritz it with a water/glycerin/e.o. mix and while my hair is slightly damp I apply the shea butter to my ends. I also baggy my ends 3-4 times a week with shea butter on my ends. And yes a little goes a long way!

I get shea butter from Oilsbynature.com. I found them on recommendation after FNWL was always out of stock. I baggy to about 3 times a week.

Thanks so much ladies for your responses! I guess I still need to research the refined and unrefined types. Is it heavy so that I should only use it to baggy? Or can I use it daily to comb and style my daughter's hair?

TIA

you know what i think would be a good moisturizer? if somebody mixed shea butter, castor oil , a little aloe vera, jojoba oil. i think that would be a great mix *crossing fingers hoping someone will try it and report back here with results*

Hi Miss Madam or anyone who knows,
Why is unrefined Shea Butter better? Is there something I have to do to maintain it? I keep seeing things about melting it keeping it from crystallizing and such. Please keep the advice coming, I appreciate it deeply.

Hey Karamel :)

When u buy shea butter that has been refined/bleached/or deoderized it destroys the vits and minerals, healing and medicinal properties of it so u wont get the full benefits.

Is there something I have to do to maintain it? I keep seeing things about melting it keeping it from crystallizing and such.
U just store it in a dark cool place as with most oils. I keep mine in my bedroom on the dresser or in my products drawer.
The crystalization happens when if u melt it a high temperatures then cools.
So if u need it to melt it for mixes its best to heat it slowly and with low temp.
I melt mine on low in my slowcooker just until it melts then add it to my mixes. U can use a double boiler of course on low heat as well.

My hair is also very thirsty. I find that moisturizers that contain water and butter as opposed to water and oil work better for my 4b hair. Right now I using and loving jane carter solution all natural hair nourishing cream.

Here are the ingredients

HAIR NOURISHING CREAM: Purified Water, Shea Butter, Kokum Butter, Illippe Butter, Mango Butter, Vtamins A, D, & E Orange, Grapefruit, Palmarosa, Cedarwood, Geranium, Ylang Ylang, Geranium, Bergamot, Rosemary Essential Oils, Jojoba, Glycerin, Polysorbate 80, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl acrylate Crosspolymer, Phenoxyethanol, Potassium Sorbate, Sorbic Acid.
