Hi ladies, I want to try giving roller sets a break for a while. I want to wash and condition my hair and then braid it in medium sections using shea butter or a similar product (suggestions please). My concerns are whether I should air dry or go under the hooded dryer.

1. When I have air dried in the past with just leave in conditioner the results were awful, however, will this type of product make it look nice and shiny and not dry and brittle? (I dont mind if the product is heavy but locks in moisture).

2. Has anyone done this and gone under the dryer? What works best?

3.Ok, my other question is how do I stop my ends from unraveling, do I use elastic bands, or what happens when you use rollers at the ends, does this seal it?

4. Please bear in mind that this is my protective style, would it last for 2 weeks? I dont want to do braid outs.

5. How do you position the plaits whilst you sleep?

All suggestions welcome, thanks ladies...

I did something like this for a twistout with mango butter and sponge rollers with end papers. Sat under a medium dryer till dry. Then went to bed, in the morning I took down added some S-curl and took a nice hot shower -- with my shower cap of course. My hair was super soft and moisturized.

debyjay, did the ends unravel at all? How long did it take to dry, did you sleep with the rollers and are you relaxed?

You could use Healthy Hair Butter or Hair Milk. I don't think it necessarily has to be a thick product.

I usually roll my ends on perm rods and that keeps them from unraveling as well as keeps them moist.

I prefer to airdry my braidouts. They seem more moist/silky that way so I usually do them overnight.
