I went for a touch up Friday after work-mind you I work 3rd shift and get home at 8:00 in the morning. I wasn't on my toes when I went to get my touch-up from my new stylist. I only had 1 hr of sleep. The client she was working on had long hair with highlights so I relaxed thinking everthing would be o.k. plus she had come highly recommended. I sat down in the chair and she proceeded to trim my hair. She asked if I had layers and I told her I did but I was trying to let them grow out. She began to snip and I didn't see much hair falling. Then she began to relax. I took a side glance and saw that she was not using a super and let her do her thing. Everyone around here tries to put a super in my hair. They see that I'm a 4a/4b a reach for the super. Truth is, my hair only needs to see the jar to start relaxing. Some people don't understand that kinky doesn't =resistant and coarse. Not having to fight the no super battle I didn't pay any attention to what she was doing and when I did realize what she had done it was too late. She had relaxed the entire lenght of my head! For the second time in a year my whole head had be relaxed by a professional. I have heard of this practice, because they say their products work best with their relaxer and feel the need to have the same relaxer all over your head. I'm switching stylist because that seems to be what they do around here and I don't want my head re-relaxed when I get a new touch up when get my next touch up.

Sorry for the rant, but what should I do to prevent breakage. So far no hair is dropping but I don't want it to start. Should I do a light or heavy protein with my next wash?

That stinks, and I'm sorry to hear that! Did this hairdresser tell you why she put it through your whole head? She should've known better.

Next week, put a reconstructor on your head with a hot steamed towel until cool then do it again. Do this every week and every other week do a protein treatment, like emergencee.

This is what I am doing to combat breakage and by golly, this week I am finally seeing a difference. It is awesome!!!!

I seriously suggest Aphogee, the hard one, seriously! I can't believe she did that! Then again with all the stylist horror stories I am NOT surprised...

Yea I agree that you should stop any breakage before it starts by using a reconstructor. Why some stylists do this, I will never understand.

She cut BEFORE she relaxed??? I'm so sorry. I've said before that we gotta always be on out toes. For one step moisture and protein, try Silk Elements Revive and Restore Hair Mayo. It contains hydrolyzed keratin, olive oil, and egg protein. Please let us know how things are going in a few weeks:)

I will do a intense protein treatment later on this week. I do have some Silk Elements Mayo in my stash. I'll use that and let everyone know how it goes. I'm just tired of taking 3 steps forward, one step back.:perplexed

If you haven't had any problems so far with your hair after all that, I would use light protein and proceed with moisture and use very little manipulation, until you are sure. I wouldn't reach for the heavy, unless you definitely need it. What the stylist did was awful, but your hair might be able to fight back against a little abuse, so I wouldn't jump for the big guns just yet.

This is why so many of us self relax.:angry2: You good cause she would not have gotten past the trim with me.:whip:

I agree with Brownie on this one. But I can't believe she did that   I would definitely take it easy on the protein by being light handed, because your hair is already super duper fragile being that the length of your hair is double processed and the HARD CORE proteins may be too much on your strands right now.

I say, light protein, handle your hair with care, and err on the side of moisture :)

She should also know you DO NOT cut BEFORE a relaxer. What was that about?? Just make sure you keep up with the moisture and mild protein and you should be fine.

This also happened to me before, and my hair shed a lot until I did an Aphogee Treatment. That was one of the things that convinced me to sign up for this board.
