she PULLED my HAIR!

I hate chicks like that. Jealousy is not a good look. But take it as a compliment. I'm glad that you let her pull it. I would have too and then said, "Yeah b*#!ch, it's long, gorgeous and all mine!" :)

I'm sorry, but I could not stand there and let someone pull my hair, that's just plain rude! I can't even tell you what I would have said to her...your ears would burn.

Just because she is your friend doesn't give her license to do this. You shouldn't have let her get away with it. Extrememly disrespectful of you.

that is rude.

My mom had been wearing braids for a year. After taking them out and relaxing recently, he hair is so thick and pretty. She told me that a lady that she knows started pulling on it. I asked her the demonstrate on me and it was the same as the girl did to you.

Really hard with her nails - as if she was trying check for a weave. Actually this lady told my mom she wanted to know if she was wearing a wig.

I would never violate someone like that.

I know, ladies. I was so stunned and I just kept waiting for her to stop doing it and she just kept going and my four other friends were standing there staring and smiling these fake grins and it was very awkward. I was in shock. Now that I know this can happen to me....I will be READY for the next time! :angry2: :armyhat:

I had this exact same thing happen to me after I went back to work. I had my hair down and it was touching my lower back. We were in a meeting and this white girl said to the other white girl who had long very thick hair but cut it to her chin....."Elizabeth, you cut your hair and (insert name here) has it now". At first I didn't get it and then it dawned on me...this chick thinks I have a weave!

Later that day she said..."I can't believe your hair is soooo lonngg" and proceeds to YANK on it hard! Picture it....I was bent at the knees and waist she was pulling so hard. I said "***** if you don't get off of my hair we are going to have a serious problem!" I then pushed her hand away and was annoyed....very annoyed. She said, "oh, I thought you had extensions." I said, "no you dumb *** it's all mine and if you do that again I'm going to slap yo *** into the middle of 2007!" *insert hehehawhaw here but serious though*

You go girl. Some girls just hate to see other girls doing well.

At Christmas, my sister in law (who is always trying to compete with me & whom I hate) pulled the longest part of my hair in the back when she was standing behind me as we were all opening presents.

Perhaps she thought it was fake so I couldn't feel it. But I did -- IT HURT!.
BUT like you I was literally SO SHOCKED that anyone would invade personal space and pull hair that I didn't say anything. I mean we are not close, we hate each other, and she does not know me well enough to dig around my crown. That's only for personal invites.

I was mad at myself afterward because I didn't say anything. I'm not a passive person. If she ever does that again, I will definitely light into her. And tell her how rude it is to invade personal space without permission.

Wow, this is giving me flashbacks of the situation that I posted about my step-cousin and her mother in december. Like you, I just sat there and let them do it. I chalk it up to being caught off guard.

Next time we'll be ready!

i was off to london, was hugging my mum sayin by

then all of a sudeen she yanked my pony and pulled my head right back

i was SOOOOO ANGRYYYY!!!!!! i mean i turned into a monster.

she was silly, random and there was no need, she knew i was trying to take care of it and she simply did it as an automcatic reation of some sort.

i didn't speak to her for my whole trip!

The nerves of her! Even if she thought it was fake, did she expect to see your weave come out of your head to embarass you?

My feelings exactly. If they think the hair is fake what are they trying to do by pulling on it? Make it come out and embarrass you? That's part of the reason that I keep my hair up a lot. People think they have some kind of license to touch!

I've had my updos and buns molested as well. :perplexed

wow, your mother did that? I so don't get it but I guess because my mother saw me go through chemo treatments (and having been there herself ) she would NEVER do something like that, neither would any of my siblings. besides, if I wear a wig, I have NO SHAME especially with my past, and will talk about it (cause lets be honest; a good wig is sho hard to find :lachen: ).

My friends know you don't touch without asking first.:naughty: No matter whats up there, if I say no, no means no, and if you persist, thats an invasion of personal space, and I swing first, then ask questions later. The ONLY exception to that rule is my boyfriend.

In my line of work hair never comes up, and beause I'm a contractor, they see me as a robot generally. I get asked more questions about when I'm gonna have kids than anything else...lol (lawd)

I still don't get the whole competition with hair thing. I guess its because I've never REALLY understood how supposibly grown women could be rude enough to yank on someones hair, regardless of where it came from (human, man made, what have you)

that is so not cute.

Too funny...you handled yours:lol:

I've had this happen to me too and I dont get it. If I wanted to know if someone had a weave I would want to run my fingers through it to feel for lumps, bumps, or tracks. If you pull on a weave like that it probably won't come out. ANd if it does, why would u wanna do that to someone?

Now that I think about it, I have had a similar experience happen to me. I use to wear braids for years. When I finally took them out and got a relaxer, my hair looked really pretty (it wasn't long... it was just soft, pretty, neck length hair). When my friend saw my hair, she said my hair looked nice, then put her finger in my hair and ran it down my scalp. I knew she what she was checking for. I didn't say anything tough.

A few months later, while I was watching TV with my boyfriend at the time whom I just started dating, all of a sudden he started running his fingers through random spots in my hair. I was like, "what are you doing?" He said, "checking for tracks!"

Why is it that people think when a black woman has long hair or even pretty, soft hair that is not necessarily long, that it's automatically weave? That s%*t makes me sick!

The best time for something like this to happen is when you have a drink in your hand. They pull and yank on your hair and...you know your hair is connected to your arm... your arm pops up and your drink spills on them!! :lachen: My other favorite is they pull your hair and you go with the tug and step on their foot... Hard!!  And there's always the involuntary elbow to their gut!

It may be rude, but it gets their attention. And I guarantee you that person won't do it again!! :lachen: :lachen:

Now that's what I'm talking about. Your comment made my day. It is so interesting that these were white girls. Girl they think our hair won't grow. They don't know what to think when they see a lovely black girl with long locks.

I posted a while back that some white women have hair that does not grow. They wear more extension than we might think. I am a former cosmetologist and the reason I know is because I have put them in!

A lot of times these kind of people are counting on women with long hair to be passive. When you demand your respect and let them know you slap the sh*t out of them they will get the message and keep thier ignorant comments and thier hands to themselves. You go girl! You have to go Omarosa on those idots!

I can't wait until somebody comes up and pulls my hair. I'm starting to think of it as a right of passage. It means you've made some serious progress. :D Don't even worry about the other stuff. Rights of passage are rarely pleasant.

Congrats! :dance7:

*lol* I'm not even g'on lie Sareca...when she started pulling it, I IMMEDIATELY thought of LHCF and thought to myself..."WOW....this is an LHCF MILESTONE!" Then she kept on and I started picturing my ends getting caught in her acrylics or some hangnails or something and I started cringing...:(

I already have hair anorexia as it is and cannot tell how much progress I am making without comparing photos, so, for someone who has known me for 10 years and who has talked about my hair BEHIND MY BACK for 6 of those years, to react that way was both shocking AND weird.

BUT, adding my four other staring and speechless girlfriends, it became apparent that I had finally made some noticeable progress and it was GOOD progress and my friends were MAD about it! :ohwell: :look:

I'm glad you put her in her place. A lot of white women really do believe that black women can't grow their hair long, and are dumbfounded when they do see one with long hair. I have this (former) white friend that would always give me a dirty/perplexed look whenever she saw me combing/brushing my hair. She would periodically ask me the same questions like how fast does my hair grow, and was it always long throughout my life - there was always this undertone of disbelief in her questions.

Hi DDtexlaxd:wave:
You're right this is very rude. I
remember about 3 years ago I wore a weave temporarily due to hair damage when this happened to me and I was mortified. I couldn't believe it because these two women (yes two) were members of our Spiritualist organization...needless to say, they are gone now. :D It happened so fast that I was shocked and did not know how to react. I was upset later for not doing something.
Well, to cut it short, if you hear about me on the next AMW...LOL
Believe me, I will not let 'this' sort of thing happen ever again.
Weave or not, people are very disrespectful. This is just as bad as pulling or grabbing any other part of your body.

Co-signing both of these. I never understood this. If it's fake, then people pulling on it must be trying to see your hair pop off. If it's not fake, then it probably hurts a lot. And actually, even if it's fake, it still might hurt a lot becuase usually weaves ponytails, etc are anchored in someway with pins or string or glue or whatever. What are these people doing?!

In general, I don't have a problem if someone asks about hair. A LOT of us wear weaves or braids at some point, so it's not a far-fetched question. But the pulling... Lord have mercy on me if I have to endure this when I achieve my goal length.

You are still beautiful, weave or not. It is a matter of personal choice. What ever choice you make should be repected. People should not touch your hair unless they ask.

This must be an American thing - nobody ever touches my hair here in France! I'd be curious to know what the ladies from the UK and elsewhere think of this.
