I've heard a few members say they do this to help with tangles and breakage. Please let me know your experiences with this method and how to do it properly. I'm wondering if I can get my hair clean enough doing this. Can you clarify in braids? This is new for me and I would just like to get some reviews before I try it. I figure it can't hurt anything....see, I'm trying to cut back on breakage while shampooing because that's when I see the most. I had a minor set-back with my hair due to uneven growth or breakage, don't know which one but I got frustrated and cut over 2 inches off. I'm trying to do everything I can to get it to grow in evenly and healthy this time.

Why am I so long-winded:lol: . This thread wasn't supposed to be this long:look: . Anywhoo.....thanks a bunch for any and all responses!

Poka, I've been shampooing my hair in sections and it really cuts down on the breakage. I do for large loosely braided sections and wash. You can also use clips and wash that way too. It really helps me because for some reason the back section on my hair is prone to breakage. I find that when I do this I have a easier time detangling and getting out all shampoo/conditioner residue that may be left behind.

I've been washing my hair in braids for over a year now, and will continue to do so.
It really makes the detangling process a lot easier.

http://www.growafrohairlong.com/shampooingnatural.html Here is a good website that i look into also. HTH I love your hair pocahontas. We have the same hair type and i was wondering how often do you flat iron your hair and it still grows. I want to do that sometime cuz then I wont have to wash it as often. But my hair curls up real quick especially with water.
Thanks angelita. That link was very helpful.

I flat iron my hair every two weeks and it dosen't curl back up in-between. I don't use heat any more than that sometimes less if I do roller sets but I'm not too good at doing on myself, lol.

Thanks Alli and Sweet Ambrosia. I think i'm gonna try this on my next wash. Do you take the braids out before you condition?

Usually by the time I run water over it to rinse out the shampoo it comes loose, I keep clips near by and just clip up the sections. I put conditioner on each section and then very loosely braid or twist it up and put it under a baggie.

Thanks for all your help ladies. I tried this yesterday and I ended up taking out the braids mid-shampoo. I didn't feel like I was getting my scalp good enough and my fingers kept getting caught in the braids. I probably just need more practice.

I think its harder to do in curly hair. What I will do is seperate my hair in four sections and use a small clip for each section do one comb it and then clip it back up.
