Hot curling everyday. They say that is ok.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yep.
He also says not to use the kind with adjustable heat because they get too hot. Ummm...
can't we just turn down the heat?
I knew his method wasn't for me when he revealed Nexxus Humectress as his holy grail product. It never did a darn thing for my hair when I used it in the early/mid 1990's.

Yeah, if we listened to and applied all of the advice in these so called know all books we would not have these beautiful tressess we have today!
The ladies on th LHCF need to get together so we can write our own book.

Girrrrl...when I just read the summary of his 24 month plan I said "What? Plueeeze! I can write a hair book!" His methods sound damaging, at least for my hair.
And I read somewhere that he says you'll get 10-12 inches of growth. 10-12 inches in two years? That's all?! That's average growth isn't it? I always hear a 1/2 inch a month is average (6 inches a year)and anything beyond that is great!
I think that it really WRONG for Shamboosie to tell women that hot curling is OK. It is not. not everyday, not if growing your hair is the goal. Hot curling fries theFRAGILE ends of your hair causing them to break. Voila-- there goes the length of your hair.
And protecting it with creme? Well what if you miss a piece? What if the iron is still too hot?
I think that's wreckless advice.
That's one of the things that bugged me about the book. Hot curling daily is ok if you use the creme press, but you may want to alternate hot curling with roller setting every few weeks.
A hair care novice will probably choose hot curling because it's easier and faster.
I am not 100% sure about this but I dont think he advocates hot curling, he just says if your going to do it use a thermal protector and he suggests creme press. Also as far as Nexxus products go he claims these are the only products that he has found throughout his years of being a hair stylist to work on a consistant basis. He only suggests the use of these products for the 24 month growth time table because these are the only products he has used consistantly. I didnt find when reading his regimne that he demands the use of these products and these products alone I think he even mentions that if you use other products make sure they are of salon quality. The bottom line is that different things work for different people and we should never take the advice of anyone professional or non-professional without investigating it our selves.
I'm not doubting this his program may work for others. IIRC, Carrie is having success following his 24-Month Plan. It's been awhile since I read this book. And I just scanned over the 24 month plan for the person that asked. But on page 19 he says, "...based on my experience with the recommended products, I am positive that they will work." He says (on the next page) that nothing will soften the hair better than Humectress. When I read that, I was like
because my experiences with Dudley's and especailly Nexxus products haven't been as earth shattering as his.
I didn't mean to offend anyone who is having success with this program.
hi dasha!
i could'nt have said it better...
me and my mane are having a groovy experience following this plan. my hair has never been prettier. i've always had nice hair (even when i did'nt know a thing about "hair care") and i did'nt think it could get any better...until i started this plan. i was hesitant because like one of the ladies, i used nexxus products about 10 yrs ago and although i got good results, i'm getting the best results now. i now know how/when to use the products thanks to shamboosie. i like his book and i hope a lot of aa woman benefit, like i have, from his advice. even if some of the info does'nt "rub" you the right way there is still good info to try on your hair. i love this board for the same reason (i learn what to do and more importantly what NOT to do) cheerio
His 24 month plan begins after your next touch up.
It involves shampooing with Nexxus Botanoil shampoo, following with Nexxus Humectress used with heat for 15 min. (I think, I use for 30) and deep conditioning with Keraphix every 4th week, followed by the Humectress.
I follow this regimen, it's simple and works well for me.
I believe that the "actual" plan would work well with any good products and it would keep you from buying alot of other unnecessary products.
All you need is a good shampoo, moisturizing conditioner and protein conditioner. Use the protein every 4th week, followed by the moisturizer.
I do have the dudley's creme press and I use that in case I need to blow dry/curl my hair. I think using heat "everyday" is a bad idea - regardless.
he said its not heat that damages hair but the person applying it. relaxed hair looses its ability to hold a curl so a marcel iron (which works best at high temperatures) along with creme press should be used. this curler and cremem press is so effective that the curl hold for up to a week, negating the need to curl over and over again, cutting down the use of heat to once or twice a week.sounds ok but i still think low or no heat is better(twist setss, roller setting options)esp for damaged or color treated hair.

Wreckless advice indeed BUT he's a hairstylist, so people, just learning or not knowing will think it's ok. So when someone counteracts this false information so that OTHERS will know why is that wrong?
I also disagree with Shamboosie's approval of hot curling hair daily! Regardless if someone is growing their hair or keeping it cut, I don't think hot curling daily is good advice.
I also disagree with his use of curling irons everyday. Does anyone think that his 24 month plan will work if you've been using a lye relaxer? I know he stats that this plan was for those who used a no-lye relaxer am I wrong? I've thought about doing his 24 month plan, but I'm a little skeptical because Nexxus Shampoos also have SLS in them, but trying I guess won't hurt.
Shamboosie, is pro-lye relaxer and suggest that you stop using a no-lye and switch to lye. He also suggest that you get your hair professionally done and that you use "quality" products, doesn't necessarily have to be Nexxus. I currently have a love affair with Nexxus, but I think any quality product would work. I think its more so the consistency of his system - the regular feeding of the hair through conditioning that helps with the growth.
Nita4 just said he recommends getting your hair done professionally. And he did say he doesn't like electric irons. Maybe he means heat styling by a pro is ok. I know when I press my hair there is a lot of smoke. I don't remember smoke when I was a child...
I'm actually tempted to buy his book now, to tell you the truth. I'm curious as to what else he has to say. I'm seriously bored with my hair and am open to new ideas, so I can't knock him.
It's a good book to have in your "hair library". I like the pressing and curling instructions. He also has a very informative chapter on hair coloring. There is photo of the cutest little girl on the "Beautiful Brown Babies" page! It looks like they took the picture while she was having braids or twists removed...
