Setting lotion...Is it needed???

Is it really necessary for a sucessful rollerset? I was thinking I would use a leave+oil, and a little bit of serum to help smooth it over the roller. I think anything else would be too much. Ladies who use it where do you fit it in in the process?

If you think it is necessary which lotion is the best? I don't care if it is expensive, I actually prefer salon brands.

Every setting lotion I've used feels great at first, then after the first day or so my hair gets really dry and starts breaking, even when I moisturize daily. I use NTM creamy leave in, then seal it with jojoba oil. Works everytime.

I prefer to use a creamy leave-in. Some of my favorites are lacio lacio, salerm and giovanni direct. Any one of these products are guaranteed to give me a hot rollerset.

I stopped using setting lotion because of the drys out my hair. Now I use Salerm or Mango Butter on the ends/magnetic rollers... and my hair is much smoother.

I use a creamy leave-in - Nexxus Headress

or a watery leave-in - Biolage Leave-in Hair Tonic

I love them both.:)

Im trying to use up my setting lotion but i prefer to use leave-in, gloss or oil and water. The hair is lighter and I dont like the way the setting lotion sits on my hair

I use a spray-bottle concoction that contains a small amount of Lottabody setting lotion. It works well for my wet and dry sets and leaves my hair controlled and shiny, but maintains its bounciness. I think it enhances my hair color as well.

I mix water, olive oil, Lottabody, a no-alcohol liquid heat protectant spray for silkiness (I like this better than the heavier serums), a little leave-in conditioner (like Ego Boost), and sometimes a drop of a Body Shop oil perfume for a nice fragrance.

However, I’ve also used just plain ol’ diluted Lottabody for years on wet sets with no drying or breakage. My “concoction” is a fairly recent thing and does triple-duty for my hair: moisturize, lubricate, and set all at once. I’m not sure if I use too many products on their own without some tampering to suit my hair preferences, even if it's just changing the scent.
:brainy:
