:ohwell:......WELL IT FINALLY HAPPENED ..... I HAD TO HAVE 3.5-4 INCHES CUT OFF :nono:. I WAS TRYING TO RECOVER FROM A HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE WITH A MONTH OF WEARING A DRAW STRING PONYTAIL THAT I KNEW WOULD BE THE DEATH OF MY HAIR !!!!!!!( TRYIN TO DO THE PROTECTIVE STYLE THING ) ON MY OWN. WELL AFTER ABOUT 5 MONTHS OF TRYING AND WATCHING IT GROW AND BREAK....I SAID ENUF WAS ENUF ....WENT TO A UNDERSTANDING BEAUTICIAN AND SHE GAVE ME A WONDERFUL TRIM / CUT. I STILL HAVE LENGTH (HAIR SITTING ON MY SHOULDERS AND WEARING A PROTECTIVE STYLES TIL NEXT SUMMER.

I WANNA KNOW AM I THE ONLY ONE SUFFERING :perplexed

Postpartum shedding. Not to mention the little one pulling my hair out.
I know my hair would be so thick right now if I hadn't lost so much

But thankfully my hair has been growing back pretty fast. I have lots of short little baby hairs

I went in to get a a trim in the half inch, three quarters, at most inch ball park. I left with a cut. =/ I couldve been full MBL this year instead Im tying to get back to APL/BSL It made no sense to get all worked up; she couldnt put the hair back on my head so I just embraced it and made sure to take extra care of my ends.

Got my hair put in a weave, that I really liked and decided to take it off to wash and treat my hair and then get it refixed. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to wash and blowdry my hair, so my hair was washed, DC'd and blow-dried in the salon and the sew-in was fixed. Fast forward 6 weeks, I take out the weave go to a natural hair salon, where the lady who washed my hair obviously tangled up my hair when washing. and then proceeded to detangle brutally. The hair dresser herself knew her onions, but the lady who washed the hair :nono:
Long story short I could not understand why my hair was constantly tangling - until I took a look at my ends- splits, feathering of every imaginable type. I just picked up my scissors and cut as far as I saw splits. Only the back of my head survived, because the curls/coils are looser and it straightens lighter and maybe because of that, was not as damaged. I did use the tangle teaser a few times, but I feel the damage was not primarily from that.
Immediately, my ends felt much better. But I proceeded to braid it all up, and I guess I need to take the braids out and assess the condition of my hair now. Unfortunately, I have so little time right now. I was at full SL, now probably much less...

Well, I've had a setback this year. Earlier this year, I was wearing my hair in a lot of WNG's and found out that my hair does not like being out and in the elements at all and no matter how much I tried to moisturize it, it would not do right. I also had hand-in- hair disease and since I had such a long commute to work, I was constantly picking at the left side. When I went for my trim, I had to get quite a bit cut off because my ends were ragged and my hair was super dry. I keep my hair in twists now about 95% of the tune and it's doing so much better. I was technically SL, but went back to NL. I I hope to full SL by the fall.

I cut 3-4 inches off from my hair to even it out in march which left me about an inch from apl. Now my hair is hittin the top of my brastrap.im glad i made the cut

I was inching towards BSL but then I had to go try that stupid tangle teaser :nono: When I realized what was happening to my ends, I stopped using it and cut off the damage. My hair felt good again, splits were gone, and then I tried the BKT to help with blending my wig. Splitsville again. I am back at APL.:ohwell:

I’m currently recovering from protein overload induced breakage, which has taken me back to APL; not to mention being in the throes of seasonal shedding.

Well, I haven't been on this forum in QUITE some time and this will be the first post that I reply to because since I've been away from the forum, I've had a few setbacks and they were all my own doing....:nono:
Well, my biggest setback resulted from slacking off in my maintenance routine; I went from faithfully washing, DC, and protective styling my hair 1x a week and moisturizing my hair on a regular basis, to doing my routine every 4-8wks and this was due to just not really having the time to devote to my routine. My life has gotten really involved these days! Talk about a nasty, dirty, tangled mess! I had no one to blame but me....so, I've cut off about 2" all over of the damaged, dry, split ends and am now back on track :yep:

I had a run in the the tangle teaser :nono:, now I have short hairs all over my dayum head. I want health over length so I've started to cut an inch every 6 weeks or so. I'm also going to start using heat (carefully) to avoid the dreaded ssks.

My setback was putting in braids. When I took the outy needed a serious trim. I had to cut of about 3-4 inches into a should length bob

A stretch from Sept to February left my roots tangled and detangling created a lot of thin ends. I had a bad protein experience this time last year. I think I have another setback. but am waiting to see if what I see is true.

I had one bkt at a salon in November my last perm was 2004. That BKT ruined my damn hair it's fuzzy and breaking like crazy I have a bald spot at the back and the crown is super thin. I could kick my self for jumping on that band wagon!! I proably need to cut it down to 2 inches but my head is to big for that!

having major shedding and much thinning...
I think it's due to all the stresses that come
along with relationships... I'm just overwhelmed...
Trying to do some trial and error to create a new reggie
and nurse my hair and scalp

i have not had any set backs with breakage but about a month or two ago i had major shedding that went on for several weeks. im just now noticing thin spots in my head. not too bad but bad enough. i never put anything on my scalp but im going to start applying a castor oil mix to my scalp to thicken/re-grow those areas.

Be careful if u haven't used it before on your scalp. I tried jbco in november and it gave me shedding when I didn't even have it. So bad my so who usualy trims my hair refused to touch it until I fixed it. Once I stopped using it the shedding stopped. I'm shedding now but no comparison

Nope, you're not the only one suffering! Like a lot of other people on LHCF, I purchased the Tangle Teezer after hearing how wonderfully it glided through hair with even the tightest of curl patterns. I enjoyed how smooth it got my hair while detangling with my deep conditioner, but after about two months of using it, I noticed a lot more breakage. I started taking biotin (5000mcg) afterwards and although that did give me a boost of growth, I noticed that my ends were torn up! :nono: I managed to hold on to some inches but after twisting my hair the other day and noticing the thin ends, I just decided to cut! Some were very minor (0.25-0.5 inch) but the very back of my head required a good inch (even as far as 1.5 inches!). I'm still at SL and I regret having to cut even THAT much (how small it may seem! :spinning:). So I consider it a mini setback, I guess. :yep:

No matter. I'll just keep PSing and taking biotin!

Tangle Teezer splits + crucial SSKs from some mini braids I put in but stupidly left the ends loose thinking I was helping my hair = cut from APL back to between SL and APL. Cut off the rest of the damage and evened it out today. I think I should be able to get back to APL by December but I should have been MBL by then. So I'm going pretty hardcore on making sure I really retain band keep my ends moisturized.

I was BSL and then I tried to go natural for a year and during that time my hair broke off so badly. I cut my hair to SL and then put in a sew-in. I just took it out this past weekend and my hair was really matted in quite a few places. To get it un-matted I had to literally pull my hair apart. I have thin ends and now my hair is barely SL. I hate that we have to work so hard to have long hair. Hate it with a passion.

It would be awesome if everyone updated with progress at the end of the year. That'd be so inspirational.

I had been doing my sew in and not moisturizing as I should, especially the nape. I left so much of the nape left out and it broke off. It is finally growing back, but after this next relaxer, in July or Aug, depending on my hair I will have to cut off about 2 inches if it does not look better. it has grown though.

This doesn't really count as a setback as it was self induced, but after a year of hardcore protective styling and hitting my goal of APL, I got lazy with my hair. I should be a good 2 inches longer than I am now.

On the flip side, I don't feel as bad as I thought I would, only because I know I can make my hair grow as long as I want. I just need to work for it!

Do you know what caused the matting?

I'm another person who should have left the tangle teaser alone. Mid-shaft splits for days. If I'd cut to where all the splits actually ended I'd probably be back up to around shoulder length but instead I cut back to a little above apl and search&destroyed the rest.

I think I overmoisturized my hair. So with my last flat iron job in April I had a bunch of splits. Also, knots/ssks but I think thats just going to come with the territory (it was my first straightening since having all my relaxed ends cut off).

I did a light dusting and a search and destroy for the knots and splits. Then a light protein treatment (GPB) while I was searching for a stronger protein, ended up ordering and using Aubrey's Blue Green Algae Mask.

I don't know yet if its a setback as I have been wearing my hair in its natural state in plaits and even when it was straightened it was hard to see if I got all the splits/knots. Judgement day will be September when I go to the salon for a flat iron and trim and I see how much needs to be taken off.

Protein overload during the earlier months of the year. It took me a while to realize what was going on,and then a little while longer to correct it. I lost about an inch to breakage, and I know I'll probably have to trim some to even out the damage. That was soooooo scary!! Seeing all of those little broken hairs all over my hands.:nono:

Stretching 6 months was my set back for the year! Thin ends and no growth. I posted pics in an April thread.

Left install in TOO long and my braids were matted. Detangling ripped out lots of my hair sooo my naturally fine hair is now anorexic.

I got heat damage from wearing my hair flat ironed constantly for the past two years. I was trying to grow it out gradually but I'm too impatient. I have stopped flat ironing it and got my mom to cut it. I've gone from BSL to APL and still have some straight areas in the front that I'm going to let grow a little longer before I cut them.
