What is the purpose of using a serum? What benefits does one derive from using one? How well does they work on natural hair?

I would like to try the Neutrogena Healing Shine serm, but I need to hear some reviews on how it works in natural hair.

I wondered the same thing when I first joined this forum. I never even heard of a serum until I joined in April 2004! Different things certain serums (or glossing polishes) do:

eliminate frizz
seal in moisture
give shine
leaves hair feeling soft and/or silky

Serums are designed to smooth and straighen the hair, giving it a light, airy texture with movement. Serums are ideal when using a ceramic flat iron.

I currently use the Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum. I really like it. I tried to use the Farouk Silk Therapy, but it did not appear to do much for my hair.
