So Wavy Baby
I've been reading the other threads and I'm starting to think that my idea of what a serum is, is actually incorrect. Can someone please explain to me what a serum is and how it is supposed to be used.

A serum has all those 'cones in it...like dimethicone. It feels different from oil though. it's not greasy, just slippery. I put it on my hair when it is wet and it makes the surface soft and smooth. It's hard to explain. It is also really good to use before flat ironimg. It gives shine, makes it soft and really smooth.

Re: What is a Serum?

Okay , so what about using a sealant. I was told that after you moisturize your hair you are supposed to seal the moisture in with an essential oil like jojoba, coconut, avocado oils. Is this true?

Re: What is a Serum?

Yes, you should use a sealant. Oils, in my opinion, are best when put on wet hair because it seals in the moisture. I'm not sure whether or not a serum will do that. I would think so. I used it after washing my hair and it appeared to do the same as oil except my hair felt softer and smoother.

Re: What is a Serum?

So would one apply a serum on top of using the leave-in and oil? Or instead of the oil? I bought some IC Hair Polish and if that's like a serum, I haven't been using it correctly. I've only used a little on my airdried hair for shine.

Re: What is a Serum?

This whole serum vs. sealant thing confuses the hell out of me.

Which is which?

Re: What is a Serum?

Oil is what is normally used as a sealant, i.e.anything that can seal or lock in moisture. But I have passed on the oil and just put in a serum after I wash. I don't care for oil too much because it makes my hair too greasy. Serums are usually advertised for smoothing the hair or giving it shine. But, for me, it has proven to be a sealant as well.

Re: What is a Serum?

It sure does. I'm going to see how it works in this way next wash time.
