SERIOUS case of Helmet Head

ok, is there such a thing as hair that is too 'un-porous'? I may be wrong, but I believe that hair that takes a long time to dry is good, and shows proper PH and something about Porosity ..scratches head---, but for over a month now I have been having some trouble after washing my hair. Last weekend, I washed around 9pm, blow dried on low for 30 minutes, got tired and fell asleep. Next Morning I woke up and my hair was still soaking wet, it didn't even look like I use the blow drier at all. I have been wearing wigs as my alternate styles in between putting in braids/twist. when I take off my wigs at the end of the day, my hair has congealed into one big helmet. (These pictures are from the first time this happened )

I am really afraid that this is damaging my hair. So far I don't get a lot of shedding, but this can't be good for my hair. I am really trying to be gentle with my hair to avoid setbacks. Any and all suggestions would be appreciated. If you think I am worrying for naught please let me know. My hair has leave in conditioners and oils, and I usually don't do anything to it until my next Con-wash (each weekend) so maybe helmet head is ok???

Hmm...Hopefully some more experienced ladies will chime in, but I will say that for me...My hair is never fully dry in the morning when I wash the night before. For some hair in its wet state (put into a bun) can be detrimental and cause breakage, but if you are just doing a wash and go type style, I don't think you have to worry about breakage so much as SSKs (single strand knots)...

In the morning, if my hair is "helmet head", I simply re-wet it with water and EVOO add some leave-in conditioner, detangle, and go on about my way...Hope this helps...

Thank you very much for your response, since I am wearing wigs, I did not want to wet my hair every day. My mom told me that my hair will 'pouri' aka rot, (I can't even describe the concept in english), if I keep it wet all the time, and since I don't know if she is wrong, I did not want to take a chance.

Maybe wash your hair earlier in the day so it can dry. If you sleep with your hair wet in a scarf or plastic cap, it will take longer to dry. Or invest in a dryer. My Pibbs 514 gets my rollersets dry in 90 minutes.
