I have had this on my mind for a while until that DISASTER with the Jamaican Castor Oil company, I had to say something.

Has anyone every thought that some members particularly those that lurk are on here to make a quick buck?
"Hey,look at this!" "I'm new try that!" Or simply become a member, gain the trust of other members, then promote their own products.
(Now if it works, It could be one thing, but be honest why you are here, be honest and say hey I came out with a new product line, could you gals try this?....that includes the CASTOR OIL COMPANY.)

But you know how some companies are...you don't know that they may use a "scout". (For example, I created a product, I put up a website, I then join a hair forum, gain the members trust and say,"Hey, I ran across this a couple of months ago and my hair grew 3 inches!!!! This is the website----)

It is simply a concern of mine that we need to be more discerning about what goes on. And not be so quick to jump on a band wagon. :look:

I just want to quickly say, that I do appreciate those who are entreprenuers on this site who are VERY honest about who they are. I am MORE willing to purchase from them because they have nothing to hide.

Whats the deal w/ the castor oil people? I saw that other thread but I didnt quite get what went down. Was the owner a member here?

They used members quotes with their screen names and put links to the sites that they belong to as testimonials that their product works
they did this without permission from the members whose names were used

WOW! That just screams desperation. What can be done about it?

Ummm I just wanna say that for the record I DO NOT work for Keracare:lol: I swear!!!

They should hire you! :D

I don't work for Nexxus either!

But I have thought about what the OP was talking about. I'm naturally skeptical about any "MIRACLE SUPER FAST GROW 4 INCHES OF HAIR IN 2 WEEKS!" post or product. Especially when the ingredients aren't ever listed or posted and there are NO pictures to back up the wild claims.

I don't mind taking good solid advice from someone without pictures, but no pictures plus some weird new "growth" product? Or someone who has to throw a mention of a certain product in every single thread they post and almost every one they reply to? Nope, I'll stick with what I know works.

I was thinking this as well. I think that there may be one or two more left here on the forum. But, what went down with sams was just WRONG!

I don't think the Jamaican castor oil company actually posted here. They must just lurk a lot. :sekret:

This forum doesn't have many spammers. I think it's because of the $5 fee.
I only remember one spamming incident, where a new member was plugging thier 'magic hair extensions' or something like that and everyone saw right through them because of their lack of posts.

I added a thread asking if anyone wanted to try a product and it was pulled (and a logical explanation given via pm).

Instead, I offered samples in exchange for feedback to some folks who wrote me about a regimen document I'd written and before you knew it...I was broke!!! LOL!! I haven't made a penny yet (and it'll be some time before it's a fully launched business), but I have gotten some priceless feedback from the ladies.

I trust most of the women I encounter here on LHCF so when I purchase something from them or at their recommendation, I kind of like it better than picking something up from the bss. I've never met anyone at these big companies, don't know a thing about them. I'd say that most folks here have good intentions. I see entrepreneurs here with services, products (jewelry, bath/body, etc.) and what not.

To be honest, I think posting here might destroy my business before it starts!! LOL!! I let it all hang out in Off-Topic sometimes....ha!

You're right to question though. I think that's always a sign of a thinking mind!

All the best,
~Ann

@RainbowCurls (aka thread killer..LOL)

Are those all your colors (past and present) in your siggy? I'm loving your new avatar, btw. That's a seductive stare going on!!!

Thanks patient1 :)
They are most of the colours, yeah. I want to try something else now though, but I'm not sure what. Also, need to get my roots bleached but am too clumsy to do it myself, and a bit afraid of hairdressers :ohwell:

(I seem to kill so many threads on forums  )

Sorry to hijack the thread...

1. How'd you come to know you were a thread killer? I'm beginning to think I am too. I come in to join the conversation and then, strangely, everyone else leaves the room.

2. I love, love, love your use of color and think your curls are delicious!!! You've got some sturdy strands. My hair would be on my pillow AND any hair below the surface would grow damaged. I love color though....sometimes I think I'll just keep my hair perpetually short...color and trim, color and trim, color and trim...

1. I think, when you manage to kill one of your own threads, you start to suspect yourself of being a thread killer.

Hang on, where has everyone else gone? It's just you and me now patient1 ;)

2. Thankyou! I don't think my hair is that sturdy though, I've noticed some split ends lately. I envy the people who can relax, dye, use heat and still have healthy hair. (Not that I want to relax again, mind, I just mean I envy the people with seemingly indestructible hair)
At one point I thought I'd temporarily abandon my long hair goal and just keep my hair short and colour it until I got bored of doing so. But I'm impatient and decided I want to colour it and try and grow it at the same time.

Am going to PM you and release this thread from it's hijacked state...
