I am asking myself if it is good to comb the relaxer creme through your newgrowth or you just have to smooth it down with your fingers? Does anyone know what is the best method to do this?
It's best to smooth it with either the back of the comb or your fingers because combing it with the teeth of the comb can leave you underprocessed or cause damage to your hair.
I figured this out when I relaxed my sister's hair. The hair straightened much better when I used the back of the comb. Previously, I self-relaxed my hair (w/the help of my S.O.), and I used the teeth of the comb and wondered why it came out underprocessed...so the back of a comb is sufficent at getting the job done.
Good question! I don't know what I'ma do during my next self-relaxer.
I underprocessed my new growth when I self-relaxed a month ago by smoothing with just my fingers and rinsing after (only?) 11 minutes of applying the PCJ.
My stylist at the salon combs the relaxer through my 4a coils, and I'm pleased with the degree of curl removal (~80% such that it airdries in ringlets).
