I'm attempting to put in either single (box) braids or twist w/extensions (later this evening). Is it easier to do one over the other? What's the best braids spray to use?
Any tips would be helpful.
I like braiding. Never done twist extensions. I think braid extensions hold better. I don't use any braid sprays but if I did, I'd probably use a light moisturizer that I'd be happy to use even out of braids. I don't think wearing braids should make you change your regimen. However, if you're really new to braid extension, I highly recommend you start off w/ the regimen given on this website: www.growafrohairlong.com as it is tried and true. Then you can modify it to suit you as you get more familiar with how your hair behaves in braids.
There's a loooong thread that gave tips on wearing twists or braids. I'll be back to give you the link.
Nonie, thank you so much! ...I visited the site growafrohair.... and I agree it's awesome. It's thru that site that I'm seeking the best braid spray. They mention to have one that's not too oily, but of course don't give any product suggestion as they sell their own product line.
If you do fine the link, thanx again. I think I will do the individual braids.
Twists w/ extensions might go a little faster (I'm assuming you're putting extensions on the box braids if you do them too). Africa's Best braid spray is good. Any light braid misting spray should be good for keeping them moisturized. You could even mix a spray bottle with a little Infusium 23 and a natural oil like extra virgin olive oil of jojoba oil to spray your braids/twists without them getting too greasy. I put a little peppermint essential oil in a small spray bottle with some braid spray to use just on my scalp for a nice tingle...it's great for scalp stimulation and hair growth.
One of my all-time idols Adrienne0194 used S-Curl when she was in braids. That's what I use when I'm out of braids so if I felt the need for a spray, that's what I would use. I think if you made a spritz (there are so many recipes around) that wasn't too thick, you could use it. I find baggying at night keeps braids nice and moisturized.
