I feel like I am a bored with my dark hair color and need to give it a boost. I would like to color my hair a reddish color. However, since I have 4a/b hair with a relaxer, I'm looking for something gentle. Also, I want to put it in myself. I am open to some suggestions!

Try Adore in Cajun Spice or Clairol Natural Instincts (if you dont mind a little peroxide) in Cinnaberry.

I suggest the Clairol only because you won't get much more than a red "tint" or halo of color with any rinse you use, and I wanted to give you a suggestion in the event that you wanted something a little more noticeable.

Tracy- is it gentle on relaxed hair. Do you have any pics from using any Clairol color? Sorry if I seem nosey.

No - not nosey. But I don't have pics of any clairol color alone - no. I always used it on top of a dye. It's pretty gentle on my hair.

Good suggestion, Tracy!! I just put this in my daughter's hair two weeks ago, and it came out really nice. Her hair is naturally dark brown, and the Cinnaberry gave her hair a kind of deep burgundy brownish tint. Nothing drastic; you notice it when she's outside in the sun, mostly.

She's pleased with it, and her friends at school noticed the difference, too (which is what she wanted...) It didn't do any damage at all, and actually it seems to have made her hair stonger.

Yeah I like this line and formula. It does the job without the damage - and it's cheap. It also lasts a lot longer than rinses.

This thread has my interest so piqued. Now I have to go back and reread all the color threads. I definitely love color but I know my hair is definitely not ready for permanent hair color. The Clairol Natural Instincts sounds great. Do you only do touchups on the newgrowth with the Clairol because of the peroxide or can you reapply it to the entire head.

What other brands of semipermanent colors do you recommend? What about the ones that don't have peroxide like Clairol Loving Care (I think)? Are these not quality?

Thanks so much!!

A week before I used the Natural Instincts, I had put Loving Care in Medium Auburn on my daughter's hair (she's only 14 so I really didn't want to use anything with peroxide) but it did practically nothing. The color was not noticeable AT ALL, and her hair also felt hard and "coated" and it looked dull. I wouldn't ever use it again.

I think it's main purpose is to (temporarily) cover gray, not to enhance your haircolor.
