Filing down seams actually works quite well. I don't do it to my combs. I buy them seamless. But I've filed down seams on hair accessories and it really got them smooth. You could give a try.

Hpw much do you want to spend? I have a mixture of Mason Pearson, Madora and Kent. These brands can range from $11 - $25, but they will last you a lifetime. I have found that the Kents break in my dd's 4z hair. :perplexed The Madora is a true bone comb and feels like it's made of steel. I've had it for years.

Mason Pearson can be found at h/e dept stores such as Neiman Marcus or even on ebay (which is where I got my tail comb). Since combs are used almost every day, I think it's a good item to splurge on. :yep:

Madora is sold online at http://madoralonghairheaven.com/madoraprod1.html

I got my Kents a few years ago at B&BW during a Christmas sale.
