Just thinking?

Does the scalp get dry just like the rest fo our body? Woudln't it make since to oil or "lotion" it too so it can stay mositurize. Does shampooing and conditioning solve that problem?

Just curious, what does everyone think

Also, when the scalp itches, does that mean it's dry? or irriated?

I have itchy scalp. I can't use certain products or dry my hair with a dryer unless I want my scalp to itch so bad that I have to wash it the next day. I live in a very dry area and if I don't mosturize my skin(and my scalp) I itch like crazy.

When the scalp itches it could mean a million things. Allergic reactions, dryness, general irritation, skin conditions like psoriasis and eczema etc. can all cause your scalp to itch or react in some way.

But you don't need to lotion it, or oil it. Our scalps are on of the few places on our bodies that have very active sebascous (sp?) glands. The glands produce enough oil to ensure that your scalp should enver need to be mositurized unless there is underactivity of some kind. That however, could be related to a more serious health condition and should be checked by a doctor or a dermatologist if it goes on too long.

Often, what people experience when they think they have a dry scalp because it's flaking is build up - you need a shampoo that cleanses the scalp better, and you need to take more time ensuring that it's clean. Esp. if you oil or grease it.

Too much build up can cause a myriad of problems - dryness and flaking among them.

Overall though, oiling the scalp is unneccessary and should be avoided. If you prefer to do it, you'll need to make sure you pay special attention to cleansing. Not only can build up irritate the scalp and create skin problems you may not have otherwise had, but it can clog the follicales that produce each strand, and slow growth.

That may be so on some heads (it happens) but not for the most part IMO. Often, when the scalp itches and you think it's not dirty you have build up that you can't necessarily SEE, but it's still there. Try using an ACV rinse. That helped my "itchy scalp" a lot when I had one. Whenever I have scalp issues, ACV rights the ship.
