Re: scalp care. are scalps supposed to be left dry
I don't put anything on mine. It tends to get irritated especially if anything synthetic like grease gets on it. I don't use natural oils on my scalp either, because it makes my hair heavy. But I do do scalp massages to spread and stimulate my scalp's natural oils.
Re: scalp care. are scalps supposed to be left dry
This is a good question. I've heard that there's no need for moisturizing the scalp too, but sometimes, my scalp feels tender (esp around that time of the month), and I find that a little oil makes me at least think it's better?
Anybody else have tender scalp? Do you moisturize/oil your scalp or not?

DITTO. Scalp messages to distribute my own scalp oils seems to be all I need too.
Re: scalp care. are scalps supposed to be left dry
I don't put anything on my scalp because I find that if I do I just end up with the itchies. My scalp produces enough sebum and if I go even 2 days without washing, my scalp starts to itch again.
Re: scalp care. are scalps supposed to be left dry
I remember back in the day my mom used to grease my scalp to combat flakes. I never do it myself and I don't really have dandruff anymore, although it is probably just because I wash it all the time more and my scalp gets moisture from conditioning. I also think that whenever I apply moisturizer/oil directly to my newgrowth it naturally will get on my scalp as well--so even though I don't put it directly on my scalp, I do moisturize my scalp I guess.
I plan on getting some wgo soon which I will be applying to my scalp. I hope it doesn't make me itchy...

My crown area gets sore also, it also itches. Scalp massages really help that. It keeps me from scratching, and after a day or two it goes away.

Mine too. Not only that, my front hairline gets sore as well. I just put some shea butter on the spots that are sore, and massage throughout the entire scalp. Otherwise, I don't put any oils on my scalp. I love my daily scalp massages. Ahhhhhhhh.
Re: scalp care. are scalps supposed to be left dry
I use essential oil blends when I'm doing scalp messages. Let's not differentiate the scalp and skin. The scalp is skin, right? We don't just message our legs after showers do we? I think with daily scalp messages and natural (light) oil blends you can keep it healthy. The scalp absorbs natural oils quickly and shouldn't clog your pores. If it is, consider the amount you're applying or your skin type. If you have oily skin scalp messages might be all you need. Just my thoughts
I try not to put anything on my scalp for as many days as possible after it's been washed; that way I can ensure that my follicles are not clogged so that my hair grows at it's maximum potential. I do daily scalp massages and only use some of KeraCare's Essential Oils when my scalp itches. However, I am planning to incorporate some of the peppermint oil & rosemary oil spritzs into my scalp massage routine in order to maximize my growth potential.
I use a rosemary tea/sage EO spritz I found a recipe for that is supposed to promote hair growth. I spritz a bit on my scalp and do a scalp massage. I don't know if it is growing any hair but it does feel good!
I don't purposely put anything except Surge on my scalp. I'm sure that some of my leave ins and coconut oil manage to get on it...but I don't intentionally grease my scalp anymore and it seems to be doing fine.
I don't have itchy dry scalp anymore and every once and a while I would get a bump that I wouldn't feel until I accidentally raked the comb over it and that would be painful. Haven't had any of those in a while...but I can't say for sure that not greasing my scalp has anything to do with it. My hair regimine is so different now it could be from any of the new things I am doing.
i dont put any oils or grease on my scalp because my scalp produces its own natural oils. I used to grease my scalp all the time when i was younger and all it gave me was a head full of oily dandruff. Now since i stopped using products on my scalp my dandruff has disappeared and my scalps stays cleaner longer. I only occasionally use my rosemary tea spritz on my scalp to stimulate growth and thats it.
