Why couldn't the braids work for me! /images/graemlins/confused.gif The ladies look absolutely lovely. I would really love to try them again but the damage that was done to my hair was like nothing I have ever seen. I was wondering if it was the hair or maybe I had too many braids (you see how I am trying to justify trying this again? /images/graemlins/wink.gif

Are you talking about the website about "Crown & Glory" method. Well I don't want to start a controversy, BUT the pictures were so fuzzy and not close, that I am not convinced that it was her hair. You would think that for a HAIR site that wanted you spend money on a book that the pictures would really detail the hair. Matter of fact, I am going to post and see what the others think.

Yes, the Crown and Glory method using the braids. On the top of the screen she added a testimonies section. The ladies hair look very nice.

Oh that. I thought those were just pictures she took from other sites. I thought they were hair models. Those are happy customers or whatever? Wow!

Maybe they were. That is somewhat deceiving if they are just pictures of models, I thought they were of people that actually done the braid mehtod.

Re: Saw Testimonies on Grow Afro Hair Long Website

There is one picture on that testimonial page that could possibly be a real picture. But the rest are obviously models because the backgrounds and lighting are perfect and the people have perfect poses. Now, I'm far from a hater, but let's be real, when most people take pictures for thier hair journal, the pictures have "normal" backgrounds in them (like rooms in their homes or outside their home) and don't have perfect lighting, and camera angles like that. One, I could understand, but how likely is it that all the people that sent her testimonial pictures sent professionaly shot pictures? And that's not the quality you get at sears, you'd have to hire a REAL, PROFESSIONAL photographer and spend serious money and just so few people do that in general.

I say those are pictures copied from a site, or possibly, purchased (licensed) from a stock photography site, but I highly doubt they are pictures that actual clients sent in.

Re: Saw Testimonies on Grow Afro Hair Long Website

Alright, but is the methodology sound? Is anyone here trying it?

Re: Saw Testimonies on Grow Afro Hair Long Website

Now that you mention it, I was so busy looking at the faces and hair that I didn't even consider the backgrounds. Okay, I'm slow at times /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Re: Saw Testimonies on Grow Afro Hair Long Website

i can't speak for the photos or testimonials, but i think what she's doing is not unlike what i've learned from the many hair boards that i'm on.

honey vibe, i did alot of what she does when i wore braids. here are some things that were different:
<ul type="square"> [*]i used curl activator, not braid spray (not enough moisture for me)
[*]i didn't retouch the entire time i wore braids
[*]i didn't pretreat the braid hair (too much trouble). instead, i just washed and conditioned the braids as soon as they were put in.
[*]i wore mine for three months at a time, not two
[*]i DID use oils on my scalp regularly. i think this along with washing helped me avoid my hair knotting up
[*]i didn't do all the deep conditionings. i'm lazy. i know it wouldn't hurt to do it though. /images/graemlins/smile.gif [/list]

i think the way she has everything organized makes the regime really easy to follow. i especially like her method for saturating braids. i couldn't find it on the site today to post the link though. /images/graemlins/frown.gif

all in all, i like what she's doing... with my own modifications.

I'm using this method now. I'll wear the braids until I get tired of looking at them (usually a month) and then I'll wear my hair in a protective style (bun covered with a fake afro puff /images/graemlins/cool.gif) until I get tired of looking at *that*. Then I'll braid it again. I believe her before and after photos are real--as much as I believe anything I see on the 'net...
For hairfanatic: maybe your braids were too heavy or too tight. That can cause the hair to be ripped right out of the roots. As lazy as I am, I try to make sure the extension hair is no thicker than the section of my real hair I'm attaching it to. Too much extension hair will pull on the scalp.

Re: I appeal to Robin Woods: I respect your effort

Has anyone asked Robin Woods about the photos? She would no doubt clarify the matter. The site shows photos but where does it say that these are actual results posted by persons who have used her methods? I cannot see where is shows a connection to the persons who are giving the testimonials. Perhaps, the layout of the testimonials has led to the questioning of the relationship of pictures to testimonials. It would be a simple matter of her stating that such and such a picture has submitted this picture along with testimonial of her results. So Robin, could this be clarified once and for all? I believe that you are a person of integrity and that the layout of this particular section(the photos) is becoming a controversy and could be quickly clarified by you.I believe that the methods are sound and I really appreciate what you have done, your intent and your professionalism. Bonjour.

Re: I appeal to Robin Woods: I respect your effort

There is a testimonial section with pictures called Hair Goal Gallery above the date. The girl from BHCAB, gldspoon/Camille submitted her picture. If someone sent in a letter AND a picture it would be with hers. Those are just random pictures she posted on the other testimonial page.

Re: Saw Testimonies on Grow Afro Hair Long Website

Honey Vibe,

I personally think it was a good method although it didn't work for me. Maybe I should have used a stronger braid spray or maybe the hair I used chewed my hair. I don't know but I did see it working. It's just that when I took the braids out the sores, and chewed up hair was not good for me. It did help with the growing though because I wasn't manipulating it all the time.

Re: I appeal to Robin Woods: I respect your effort

Hi Mahalialee4,

I personally don't care about the photos. I thought they were lovely. I just wished the program worked for me without the sores and my chewed ends. I personally talked back and forth with Robin through emails and she didn't hesitate to answer any questions that I had and I like her.

I am not a hater when it comes to her concept at all and I appreciate anyone that is willing to give information when it comes to the lenght of their hair. I just wished I knew why my reactions to it were preventing me from keeping them. I have seen too many women with long hair that act evasive when you inquire of their hair, which is not the case with Robin. I appreciate her efforts in trying to help us.

Re: I appeal to Robin Woods: I respect your effort

Honeyrockette: I totally agree. that is why I am saying that Robin Woods is is the position to clarify this...so that there is no misunderstanding in anyone's mind as to the relationship between the photos and the testimonials. I do stand by my statement that this can be done by her at the site, should be done and I appeal to Robin to do so.It would eliminate a fruitless debate. Personally, I thought that it could have been a mix of pictures sent in and people who have grown their hair out however, in the past and agreed to have it on the site, but not all necessarily with the Crown and Glory Method. Specifically, I am only interested in seeing pictures on that site that were testimonials and photos of users of the method who have have noticeable success. But that is my personal preference. Hope this helps . Now it is up to Robin. Bonjour.

Re: Hair Fanatic: Perhaps there is a possibility

that your scalp cannot handle prolonged moisture on it. Further the braid sprays may not agree with your scalps. There are some bought sprays that really mess with my skin, scalp, sinuses etc. Curious. Have you ever used a homemade spray and added neem or tea tree oil? I have to be very careful with the kind and amount of glycerine I use in any product I make. Also, I have to rinse frequently, but since I keep my hair wrapped up 98% of the time, I have to use a clarifier shampoo on my scalp at least once in 7 days, sometimes less. But it needs to airdry to avoid becoming "musty smelling". I was reading a post at another site and this lady stated that she uses an AVC rinse everytime she wet her hair and it eliminated her scalp problems with braids, and kept her braid spray routine to every other day and allowed her hair to airdry. Can't remember the site but hope this helps. I do not know if any of this is applicable for you, just wanted to share. Bonjour.

Re: Hair Fanatic: Perhaps there is a possibility

Is her video worth buying? I'm a fumble finger... can't braid or twist to save my life /images/graemlins/spank.gif I want to transition from relaxed to natural. Can anyone offer any easy braiding tips?

Re: Hair Fanatic: Perhaps there is a possibility

Aren't some of our members featured in the photo gallery/testimonials? I know Den and DSD are. I think Camille is or used to be.

Re: Hair Fanatic: Perhaps there is a possibility

i do the crown &amp; glory method. and every since I've been doing it, my hair has grown and I'm actually keeping my lenght. It works for me! and If I'm not mistaken Den1 does the method and her picture is on the site also.

This thread is so strange to me since most of those pictures are of members of this site. To me those are obviously real pictures of people who have used her methods.

I need to send in my update pics!!

I think the video is worth buying because before I watched it I had no clue how to do braids using extensions. She makes it really easy.
