Ryler Styler - Crimping Rollers

That looks interesting. I'm thinking I would still need to put a roller at the ends maybe.

I've seen these mentioned on other hair boards but I cannot find a photo of any sistas who've used these to style their hair. Anyone have photos to share?

I have some of those but I have been looking for the them for the longest because I don't have enough for a full head. They used to sell them at beauty supply stores.

Yes one will still need a small roller at the end.

They make nice deep waves or crimps depending on the size. Your hair will dry faster than traditional rollers.

Okay Lo and behold my dusty little BSS actually had these in stock. My silly self only bought 1 pack, because if they dont work I don't want to be out of the money. I will update the thread whenever I use them. I tried it one my bang on dry hair, I used 2 curlers and had a little hanging out so I would probably just roll that piece with a small roller.

Ok I have a BSS around the corner. Let's see if they have em! Wish me luck!!!! I know I'm sick...

Here is another picture. Looks like it will take several of these for a whole head. If I can find them cheap I will try them. These look pretty crazy on! Kinda like Curlformers...

It looks like they may smooth out the roots and you can curl the end up inside the last roller or use a small roller at the ends. I don't know...cant wait to try.

i want these.

they were in my BSS for a while. But as soon as I decided to buy them...they were all gone. and never replenished them. darn

These would be nice for folks like me who cant braid and do a proper braid out but still want the wavy, crimpy look.

I just want to see how it looks on someone with my hair type first.

Just looked at these at Sally's. The snap together to cover the length of hair you have. Ideally you snap enough together to go from root to tip ( sans roller). It will take a few packs though. I'm waiting for full APL to try. :(

I use to LOVE these! I got to get some. They make the prettiest crimps without that horrible burning, drying crimping iron. These are great!

Sigh, looks complicated.:ohwell: I think I'll have better luck trying to learn how to braid.:ohwell:

They are not complicated. All you do is snap them on. You take a piece of hair. You take a crimper and snap it on close to the scalp. Then you snap one on under that. You keep going until you get to the end.

You need quite a bit of those "stylers" to get the effect shown. I think its easier to just do a braid out with either individuals or cornrows.

I used these a couple of years ago. I remember that I had to use a lot of them. When I fluffed my hair out it produced a wavy fro look. I suck at braidouts, I might revisit those things.

ETA: Hook them together before putting the stylers on each section.

YES!!! These were great! What was this, the late '80's?
I'm definitely getting them again-seems like they might stretch my natural better from completely wet than braids or twists which shrink as they dry.

Ok I did it. I bought these at a local BSS for $7.99 for 12 of them. If I had bought another package then I think I would have had enough for shoulder length hair. Ok I am relaxed. 9 weeks post.

Anyway, I washed and DC'd, detangled and got started. These things weren't exactly easy to figure out. The instructions even tell you to practice before you give up. Basically, you section your hair and start at the root. Snap as many together to fit down the length of your hair. I only needed two rollers for each section to cover the length. I did not need an extra roller at the bottom for the end. I would have though, if my hair would have been longer in front. It took me about 20 mins on my first try. They are a little hard to snap closed, but once I got the hang of it I was okay. I didn't do the back of my head though. That may have been more difficult if I had, but instead I twisted the back and put a roller on the ends. If I had bought more of these, I would have at least done the top layer in back and twisted or braided the bottom layers in back.

These do not work well on dry hair b/c they don't stay in well on dry hair. Also, when your sections aren't big enough they won't stay in. I parted my hair on the side and did 4 sections on 1 side and 2 on the other.

I sat under my bonnet dryer for about 25 minutes.

Here is what they look like:

If I practice with these, I'm sure I could do better. Also, I think I would like it more if my hair were longer. APL anyone? Overall, If you like big wavy hair this one is for you. Use products that help reduce frizz though. I bet a few drops of castor or aloe vera gel may have helped me with that problem. All I used was a leave in conditioner and some chi silk infusion and I still had a little bit of frizz. Oh and make sure to part your hair where you want it to be, because once you are dry, your part is gonna want to stay put or bust.

Hopefully someone else can review these too. These really could be great for someone, but right now I think I'm sticking with flat ironing, braid outs or bantu knots.

Happy Conditioning!

Thanks for the review PGirl! I really like the wave definition. I can totally tell that if you had enough rollers it would have come out even better than it did. Did you airdry? Or sit under the dryer? Thanks for sharing, it looks great on you.

I wanted those so bad, but I don't how it would work on natural hair. PGirl, it came out really pretty!!

I airdried for about 20 minutes and sat under the bonnet dryer for 25 minutes.

I want to see a natural try these. With the right products it may just look great.
