I have a problem!! I am 5 weeks post!! My hair is a little thick at the roots due to MTG! The problem is that my hair gets a little rough like all the way down after the 4 week!!! Like the relaxer is gone! Sometimes it doesn't even move the same! It stays in the same spot! Any suggestions??? Please help!!!

TIA

Maybe you should stop using the MTG, or get a stronger perm on your next touch up. That's a trip! Goodluck!!

This happened even before that it just has started faster since using MTG!! And has hppened with every relaxer I have had!!

My hair gets like that two about 2/3 week post. I like to use alot of leave in conditioners like Lacio Lacio to soften the roots and comb or brush back and pin up the little bit I have on my head

Hey sweetpeadst what styles do you have in your hair when you are 5 weeks post relaxer. What types of moisturizes are you using in you hair. Are you using oil or leave in conditioners.
When my hair is like this I use a hot comb and put 8 large braids in my hair and then throw my wig on.
What also works is washing your hair and then put infusium 23 leave in conditioner and some BB Super Grow hair grease light or heavy then wrapping the hair and letting it dry, Then running the hot comb through it if you need to.

I hope this helps.

I am currently using Lacio Lacio as my leave in!! I just washed my hair and I am trying something new (Asha's Omega oil and the Hair Pudding) I put some leave in and a little watered down lotta body wrapping lotion! I like to wear my hair down everyday!!

Have you tried ntm silk touch leave in? maybe put some moisturizer like ntm leave in and than wrap your hair using a soft bristle brush to make the cuticles smooth than wrap it.

Sweetpeast, that is why I am transitioning to natural. Mtg makes my hair relaxer resistant. I'm happy for now my hair is growing and it is not shedding at all like when i had a relaxer. Hope all goes well! :D

I think the MTG is causing your hair to feel rough and makes your hair look like it didn't take the relaxer.:yep: I am experiencing the same thing as well. I texturized my new growth with (Designer Touch regular) a few weeks ago and I continued to apply the MTG to my scalp. By the end of the week my hair looks as if I didn't texturize it all all. My hair became thick, bushy and my hair doesn't even look like I texturized it at all:nono:. I tried to do a corrective with a different texturizer(Scurl regular) to see if that would have solved the problem and I started applying MTG again the day after and my hair still looks underprocessed.:ohwell:I need a scientist to really explain what's going on:confused:.

Elucence Shampoo and Conditioner followed by BBD Stretch Creme helps me maintain my rough newgrowth.

Sweet, I was having some roughness problems too. This thread gave me my first clue...porosity, so I switched back to my tried and true Aphogee treatment. I'm giving DRC 28 a rest for a while, because I think it wasn't what my hair wanted for the warmer weather.

Next I joined the Salerm bandwagon, expecially the Wheat Germ treatment. I first condition wash, then apply the treatment. Cover my hair with a shower cap then either sit under a heat cap for 20 minutes or wrap a towel over the cap and leave it on for as long as I want (an hour is good, the longer the better). Then I rinse and apply a leave in. The softness is incredible.

I now plan to use Aphogee every 6-8 wks. and Salerm Wheat Germ treatment once or twice a week through the summer as needed.

Speaking of porosity, get you some Roux Porosity Control Conditioner. I got mines from Sally's Beauty Supply, for like $6. It really softens your hair. I like to use it when my hair is feeling rough. HTH.

Aww shucks..I came in here to talk about salerm and porosity control and some folks beat me to it.
Other things you may want to try - LUST, alfa parf crystalli liquido semi di lino (a serum), nacidit olive oil and rysell cocconut conditioners

After using the porosity control for about 2 weeks, it made my hair rough while in the shower. it really worked well when ifirst started using it though.

Is this a putting a blackeye on our beloved MTG:hammer: :fishslap: :bud: .. Because it sure is making hair resistant... my touch up did not last long.... not that I don't mind the growth.. but....

Sweet... I hear you on the hair on the ends not acting right and laying down... When I a pre touch-up at 4 weeks... Mines look like a scarecrow:antlers: :covereyes :lachen: :burn: .
Then after the touch-up back smooth again... I can't figure that out....

I do the bun thing almost everyday...so it does not matter...But I do like to wear it down sometimes....

After washing, I have been slicking it back in a ponytail to dry and tying a silk scarf tightly while it dries.... Hope something will help you....

Have you tried Black and Sassy Smooth Shine or Nexxus Headress leave-in?....

I don't think the MTG is the reason my ends are rough!! B/c they did the same before I ever even used it that is probably one of the reasons I relaxed more often. Since I am stretching my relaxer it is apparent that my hair is rough! I wish I had a better solution! I don't want to have to flat iron!! I will be at six weeks Wednesday! I want to strecth until August but what should I do??? Someone please help!! I have tried the Feels good after I flat iron it though!!!

Personally I don't mind the resistance. I don't know if this is true or not but I was told that stronger hair is harder to relax..it is more resistant to chemical treatments. I have not texturized since the mtg (sure is doing great for growth) but I know my hair used to take real quick to the relaxer..especially the front edge area which is the weakest part of my hair. Next time I go..if it is resistant..then I think i'll be happy and just find away to work with it.

Hey sweetpeadst!

It seems like you have drying hair issues. My hair kind of reacts the same way your hair does at around 6 weeks post. I begin with Elasta QP Breakage Control serum w/heat for 30min and then I move on to deep conditioning treatments at least once a week for an hour with heat. This has made a big difference in the softness of my hair.

After every washing whether deep conditioning or CO I put about a good tablespoon of olive oil on my hair when damp and roll my ends with magnetic rollers. Makes a big difference when airdrying. I also use NTM silk touch leavein and this stuff makes my hair soft and more manageble.

How often do you get your touch ups?
Is it rough even with a roller set?
For myself, the closer I get to touch-up time the more I have to up the moisture and bring out the big dogs to get the job done:lachen: ....(some products moisturize better than others)...

Sound like you may need serum when your hair is wet to smooth it down...

Keep us posted....

This last wash I pre-pooed with coconut milk for about thirty minutesthen washed w/ VO5 Honey and something (Heat Activated) then I put on Proclaims cholesterol (felt like butter afterwards) and slept with a plastic bag on my hair!! Rinsed and put LAcio Lacio, a little health goddess, Asha's Omega oil and HAir pudding and Phyto Deffeirsent (sp)!! am I putting to much product in it????

Hey Sweet, i'm not a MTG user but I have rough newgrowth like after week 4. So I started experimenting with different drying methods. The one that REALLLY works the best and makes my hair super soft and my roots straight. I blow-dry my hair on low heat, i use a large comb to detangle then i use a round brush to straighten my hair. My hair comes out straight and my nappy roots comes out wavy. So i dont even need to use a flat-iron after i blow-dry. after a wash, i lightly spray a detangler and use vo5/water as a leave-in. I rub WGHO in my roots, I use a dab of elastica qp mango butter and rub thru my hair, then i rub a small amount of ntm serum thru it. I am 8 weeks post and my hair still looks smoothe, fluffy and shiny and has bounce to it. i think it's because my roots aren't nappy and tangled. I know some people avoid heat like it was the plague but it actually works for my hair since i only wash 1/wk now.

good luck!

That is what I use to get (somewhat like a dominican blowout) and it did good on my hair!! May have to go back to to doing that! I wonder do they have any Dominican salons in the Birmingham, AL area?????

I have that same problem. I often wondered why the first few weeks after a relaxer my hair is soft and flowing even after washing, and then all of a sudden it’s not…Shouldn’t only the new growth be rough and the rest of the hair still soft and flowing? I thought that maybe when the perm is rinsed out it kinda “softens” the relaxed hair that is already there and after a while that affect wears off. Who knows.

Anyway, the only way I’ve been able to achieve that fresh perm smooth look after week 5 post relaxer, is through a Dominican blowout. I have them blow out the roots only, wrap the hair and the next day…walah…smooth hair. If I wash it myself, sure it’s clean and conditioned…but there’s not much styling I can do.
