Roller setting - curl points outwards

...when I didn't roll it that way? Why does this happen? If I roll the section of hair underneath, sometimes some pieces will end up with the curl flipping outwards. Why?

I'm not sure, but my hair naturally "flips" when it's curled.

Back in my relaxed days my hair would ALWAYS flip itself. No clue why.
