Just how do steam rollers work? How do they get steam in them?? I started a thread about them and no one responded :(

I want to try these, but I have no idea what they are! Maybe I'll get some answers in this thread...

I love my steam rollers. I have the Caruso rollers. http://www.cachebeauty.com/caruso.htm

I love them so much, I bought another set when the other one stopped working after years of neglect and abuse from me.

Mine work with just plain old water. Most do just work with water. For the Caruso, you put it in the bottom part, plug it up and the steam comes out of the top part. You sit one roller on the peg (vertically) for about 8 secs or so then roll it up. Shortly after, take out the rollers and voila!

I love my ionic steam rollers. I think mine are made by Vidal. They cost me $20 + shipping from Target.com. My curls are always shiny and they last for more than one day.

I want one so bad. I bought one...or so I thought..I saw IONIC and got all excited. Brought it home and was mad b/c I couldn't find the instructions....so I'm trying to figure out where the water goes....well I coulda won a Darwin Award b/c my dumb behind realized 45 minutes later its NOT A STEAM SYSTEM, its just regular old electric rollers...HAHAHAHA..I used them anyway. I figure if its cool enough for me to hold in my hand and not get burnt, it can't be that bad for the hair...b/c I know I ain't touching my jilbere curling iron, even on medium it burns.

Sweet that one should be the same if it uses steam to heat

I have the Vidal Sasson one and I love it. I got it from Amazon.com for $21

I have to find out but there is another one that they said worked better than Caruso. It's not Revlon. It's another name. I will find out the name. I just read about them the other day. It may be Vidal Sasson..

Hi Sweetpeadst,
Over the years I have purchased the Revlon rollers, and Caruso, and Vidal (can u say product junkie)! ;) I love each of them and find that the Caruso and Vidal are nearly identical, but the Vidal is a better price and seems to work without slacking off or needing cleaning.
The Revlon I purchased several months back and realy enjoy them, I use them the most. The rubber outer layer helps the pollers maintain their shape better than the other steam curlers. But keep in mind these rollers get hotter than the others, not hot enough to burn, but when u place a heted roller in the palm of your hand and one of the Caruso or Vidal in the other palm, u will have to roll the Revlon around to be comfortable. The Vidal and Caruso can just sit there, nothing really warm. The Revlon rollers are also smaller in diamiter than Caruso or Vidal.
The Vidal and Caruso units are smaller and u heat one roller at a time. The Revlon allows u to heat two curlers at the same time, this keeps me moving a little faster. Over heating a curler doesn't matter, unlike the Caruso and Vidal that can become dripping wet, the Revlon just doesn't hold water like that, but more than 30 secs. of steam and u will have to leave the curler in longer.
As far as using it on natural hair, hmm, I have to say I achieve some success, but nothing like with a curling iron. If I allow my hair to air dry then curl iron I love the curly smooth outcome of ringlettes that I finger fluff and go. With the steam curlers, the length of the hair curls, but the hair closer to the scalp is wavy (I could bump it with a curling iron I guess) and the curls kinda draw up so it looks OK, but like 1/2 the length it really is. It just doesn't give me a polished finished look, but OK for the weekend, especially if I pin it up. I say its worth a try for naturals especially if u can return it if it doesn't workout. I use the Bodiphier so my hair does resist frizz and humidity, but it doesn't completly straighten hair. Without the Bodiphier my hair would be frizz city usa!

Easy check out Ulta, or even Ulta.com that's where I bought mine. Amazon.com may also offer them. You may want to call around if u don't want to order online.
