I agree with Crysdon - 5 weeks is way too soon. You risk serious overprocessing by retouching too soon. Profectiv Break Free on your roots is also a good way to smooth out your roots.
I recently had to get mine done in a 3 week period. But that's because my hair was extremely underprocessed. I had around 3 daggon inches of curly hair and the rest was straight. My hair was breaking left and right, so I couldn't hold out any longer. I am glad with the decision. I wouldn't recommend getting a touch-up before 6 weeks, unless absolutely necessary. By that, I mean that you have inches of underprocessed hair that is breaking badly as a result.
I alays say that if i have a1.5 inches of new growth i'll relax... whenever that is. I think you should hold off as long as there is not a problem wih breakage
! Yes, before I get my head bit off I know you are NOT by all means supposed to do this, but I had a REALLY messed up relaxer with tons of underprocessed hair
.
No, it didn't hurt me, or should I say my hair, and everything went great
. I did not experience any hair problems from doing this and have NEVER did it again though
. I was scared to do it the first time, but I just took a chance and said a prayer to God to PLEASE not make my hair fall out or experience any bald spots from my little experiment. And it worked
! Thank you Jesus
.
Anyway, even thought I did this, the other people are right. You should really wait it out because you can experience overprocessing your hair. Good luck with whatever you decide
In addition to using oil on your new growth..I would also suggest washing your hair and using really good conditioners and smoothing conditioners..It may not be possible to wear it straight, but this really helps me and my new growth is thick.
Definitely not suggested! I, too have thick hair, but the St. Mark's brand of MSM (I'm on my 3rd month now ) and air-drying in a ponytail with S-curl gel and activator mixed has kept my new growth manageable.
Although running my hands through the crown of my head (wooo chile!), you definitely feel the thickness. That's the area that produces the most new growth for me.
This new air drying method (with the S-curl) has helped me to prolong my touch ups. May 15th will be my 12th week and for the first time, I'm controlling my new growth, not the other way around.
I think that is what happened to me too, I did my own retouch last time for the first time and I don't think I left it on long enough, it looks like I have an afro at the roots and the rest is straight!! I can't even wear a ponytail it is so bushy,
Yes, I normally go every six weeks because I will have a bush and breakage any longer, but I wanted to see about 5, I might wait one more week, but I look a mess, and I just got back from the Keys and I think that made it worse
