Don't ask me why, but yesterday I was thinking about an aunt I have who gets her hair relaxed every other week. Seriously. I'm surprised she ain't bald.

Do you know anyone who does stuff like that with their hair? Or, were you once that person?

That's crazy! I used to get a relaxer every 4 weeks and my scalp would ALWAYS burn!! I just thought it was the relaxer working--but every other week???? That's OD:nono:!!!! My hair definitely would've fallen out.

What is she relaxing???:perplexed. I doubt she would have gotten enough new growth to need a relaxer that often. I've know people who would do it every 6 weeks and I thought that was extreme.

I don't know anyone who does every other week. But, my last hairstylist tried to convince me that many of her clients come every four weeks and their "hair looks great." I was going every six weeks until my hair started breaking. So, now I do it my self with a no-lye relaxer every eight weeks. When my hair gets a little longer, I may stretch that to twelve weeks.

I was one who would relax every 4-6 weeks and relax the entire length of my hair everytime. :wallbash: I never had shorter than SL hair except the one time it was cut but it never got any longer:ohwell: either. I am just so grateful that my hair never up and left and that it was so thick that it could endure the massive shedding that I thought was normal.:nono: Those were my dumb days.

the one person that told me they did that has a short, halle berry type cut, so she did it to maintain the look.

i used to relax every 4 to 6 weeks and thats too often to me.

my sister-in-law does it, she has a Halle Berry style short do...to keep the back slick....and colored on top of that

*raises hand* I used to do it...

During my pre-LHCF stage in life, I just did not know how to manage my frizzy hair (little did I know it wasnt frizzy but just damaged!) So I knew my hair would be super straight after a relaxer and I bought a kiddie perm. Oh and this was at the same time when I was crazy about coloring my hair.

Yeah so my hair did get straight but how did my hair fare?...I'll leave it to your imagination.

That was my sister Sabrina. She would relax her hair, blowdry it, and immediatly color it with Loreal Feria color. The crazy thing was her hair looke good and she didn't have any major issues.

some people's hair can take anything...

let me relax every 2 weeks, i'd be bald:ohwell: it doesnt take much for my hair to start acting up

There is a girl where I work who was recently relaxing her hair every two weeks. ( She is a shower aide who gives residents showers 8 hours a day/ 5 days a week in the facility where we work) I asked her one day (hopefully not sounding rude or impolite), Girl, what is going on with your hair? She told me she was relaxing her hair every two weeks because her hair was sweating out so fast and her relaxers was not lasting from sweating in the hot steamy shower room everyday. I asked her to please not relax her hair no more than every six weeks and to wrap her hair up when in the shower room . She says she has stopped relaxing every two weeks. Her hair is looking a lot healthier already. Before anyone ask, no she is not using my products. She doesn't know about them because I don't want people bugging me at work trying to get me to sell hair products out of my trunk. I'm busy enough at work, I hardly get a chance to take a potty break.

Anyways, I relax my hair only applying to the new growth at least every six weeks. I can't stand to wait any longer than that because of all of the new growth I have by then . After three weeks of using my products, I actually need a relaxer then but I know that relaxing that often is just not healthy even when it is just being applied to new growth so I wait out the last three weeks most of the time wearing a cute little pony tail to try to hide all of the new growth until I can relax again. Sad isn't it. :ohwell:

That is too bad about your co-worker. Well hopefully she will continue to stretch it out. So many people need to visit this board! :nono:

I did my mother's hair last weekend and she called me tonight to ask what I did to make her ends feel go good. She had just gotten a relaxer touch up about 2 weeks ago and up until the day I did her hair, she could not get her ends to lay flat or style her hair properly. She was thinking of relaxing again :nono: until I did her hair. This is the woman that taught me how to do my hair. :nono: Love her to death, but my mom is still in the dark about her hair even after I try to help her.

BTW, you are not the only one relaxing every 6 weeks - I don't think that is sad at all. Not everyone is stretching it out like that. Besides, I don't think it counts because your hair grows so fast. To me, technically you still are stretching. :yep:

I used to buy the big tub of Bantu and relax my hair every 4-5 weeks. I used to relax my edges all the time, like anytime they would get poofy I would pull out the Bantu and then wipe it out with a rag.

I would bleach my hair(hi-lites) all the time. One time my hair started smoking and I felt like my scalp was going to catch on fire. My hair still looked decent and pretty thick, but it was super damaged. It's amazing that I don't have like 2nd degree burns on my scalp and no hair.

WOW...

I never had a color or bleach. All I need to do is not moisturize and i'll end up with 15 strand of hair on my head.

well actually the time i used to relax every 4 weeks my hair remained very thick but it never got longer than ear length.

I used to work with a girl who would leave her relaxer in for an hour at the least!!! She sometimes left it on longer!!! Yeah, she had a very short Halle Berry cut alright but not 'cause she wanted to!! :nono: She used to say that it would never take unless she left it on that long. I had to tell her about herself. Her hair was never longer than a bit until she stopped that mess. Oh, I almost forgot to add that she didn't always use a neutralizing shampoo. She used to do the most awful things to her hair.

I used to relax my hair every 4 weeks root to tip. :lachen: I never had any problem because my hair resists relaxers. I would never do this ever again! Every other week is just asking for trouble.

Is her hair really short. I used to go to a salon and there were many girls with REALLY short styles that like keeping their hair cut close like that. They got relaxers more often to maintain.

Beauticians use to relax me every 6/8 weeks. Now that I self-relax every 4 months, my hair has gotten healthier and longer. I know dealing w/tons of new growth is not for everyone but my hair loves me for it.
