I heard once that you shouldn't get a relaxer during that time of the month becasue it won't take. Well it is that time and I am able to get a touch up betwen today and Sunday. Is that any truth to this statement or is it an old wife tale?

Oh lawd, havent heard that one before! Definitely an old wives tail, girlfriend!!!!! Go ahead and get your touch up, sis! :)

I think the only reason why that became one of those old wives tales is because around that time of the month due to hormone changes some sistaz mey be a little "sensitive" You are losing blood your iron count may go down and your body is just going through. If you get achemical and you are on the extra "sensitive" side you may burn a little more easy which may mean a quicker rinse out equivalating to a relaxer that "didn't take" . Personally I don't recall it happenning to me but it could have - I do know I am suceptible to colds if my diet ain't right @ that time for some reason. I notice if I ever get a cold which is rare it's @ that time.

Is your nana named Rose? My nana says that too
I guess women probably got moody in the hairdresser when they got relaxers during TOM. LHCF urban legend :look:

Nah that is an Old wives tale....BUT I did it once and burned!!!! There was a thread a long time ago and a lot of the ladies noticed the same thing when they had relaxed during TTOTM. You are indeed more sensitive coming up to your period especially, avoid that time just before and during if you can.

I think it can in fact alter one's sensitivity to the chemicals on the scalp, as suggested by a pp. But every woman is different.

I don't know about relaxing hair, but I do know that you feel greater pain when you get a waxing during your period. Doctors acknowledge that you do have a greater sensitivity (probably due to hormones).

So, it could be that your scalp is more sensitive during your period, which might translate in keeping the relaxer on for a shorter time, which could result in underprocessing.

Well, I went to JC Penney's last night and got my touch up and it sure did feel good. I will make a separate post about that. However, my relaxer took and I didn't burn at all. And of course my "friend" came this morning. So maybe everyone is different or it is an old wives tales but this morning I am a very happy person with my hair all did ( of course it is raining cats and dogs out but my hair is looooooking goood)
