Hello,

I'm going to Costa Rica for six months to teach English. My hair texture is 4a. I have a relaxer already. I haven't put any heat on my hair for over a year. My hair is almost to my shoulders and fairly healthy. I was thinking about getting braids for the whole time I am there so I won't have to deal with getting my hair relaxed so It won't break off. Is it possible to stretch my hair out in braids for six months, and then taking the braids out and relaxing my hair Without my hair breaking off. Any suggestions? Thanks ;-)

It is most definately doable!

May I suggest that you do not relax in between but consider blowdrying your hair instead for the straightness you want for rebraiding. I did this for over 8 months while I was growing my hair out in 07 with a lot of sucess my braider never complained that my hair was too thick and such.

You can certainly do this. I would check out the crown and glory method. It can guide you towards a healthy way of maintaining your braids for longer periods of time:
