I have a question...what do you put on your ends after you wash to keep ends from getting frizzy and dry?

I know it is not from damage because I just got a major trim. But I am having a hard time moisturizing my ends, I have tried loads of stuff.

What method are you using to airdry?

I have found that it's not so much the products I use, but the technique . . .

I use a mixture of coconut and amla oil especially on the ends. That works to keep them from getting crinkled when I dry it in my (ghetto) bun:D

You have to be careful how you wrap it too. I try to wrap my ends under for protection so they don't get crazy looking. Some people just put their hair in a ponytail with a roller on the end which can also help.

i usually separate into two or four sections and wrap into a bantu knot, i never had this problem to this extent b4.

I've never airdried in bantu knots, but whenever I bun dry, my ends are a bit "less smooth" than when I rollerset or loose dry. I think bantu knots would have same effect as bun, since they're kinda "little buns" all over?

Castor oil, neat, on my ends always helps to defrizz and smooth.

IMO, if you want best results, rollset hair while wet and let airdry -- ends come out smooth as butter. I don't rollerset as much any more 'cause it takes so long to dry, but whenever I want my hair to be "perfect" I do a rollerset on freshly washed hair or as already suggest, put rollers on the ends of each knot to so that ends come out smoother . . .

Sometimes if I have a lot of new growth, I will airdry in SEVERAL ponytails with a roller on the ends. I use Frizz Ease extra stregth and NTM silk touch. My hair is growing much faster now that I airdry and doesn't break. But I HAVE to use the Frizz Ease extra stregth on it or it won't come out silky for some reason. No breakage this way.

i will try the roller, I am starting to get terrified at the thought that maybe the scissors were dull and messed up my ends.

I have been using MizaniMami's baggie method with the roller after sealing my ends with oil and it's been great. Thanks MizaniMami

I airdry in a ponytail. I put a little Fantasia IC serum on the ends and profective healthy ends or profective anti-breakage creme. My ends dont come out frizzy. I have a pic in my Fotki.

I just rinsed my hair and added proclaim aloe and shea butter conditioner, and island oil throughout my head and then I separated it into four sections, reapplied con. and oil concentrating on my ends and then covered with a roller, the con. and oil made my ends feel immediately better, I will repost back tomorrow to see how my ends feel....this method might be my new ish.

When I airdry, I apply my leave-ins and oil and then set my ends on 4 jumbo self holding rollers. The weight/tension helps my hair airdry straight and the rollers make my ends look great, as though they were freshly trimmed. Before I discovered this method my ends were looking a hot mess. But this way, you seal in moisture and it gives ends a polished look.

well, my hair turned out ok till it was completely dry and then back to frizzy town, I will try one more time tonight with smaller sections. But the aloe and sheabutter conditioner proformed well.

Rolling my hair up in magnetic rollers after making ponytails has been the best way for me to airdry with smooth hair and very smooth ends.:)

Hi Isis, BTW I love your avatar pic. That's some gorgeous hair right there! ;)

I saw in your album you use those large green rollers in your ponytail rollersets. Do you sleep in those after everytime you wash? I have those same rollers but I never use them. I don't think I'd get any sleep if I tried to airdry them in them. :look:

Thank you for the compliment! That's a Caruso set in my avatar.
Yes, I easily sleep in the giant rollers. The trick is rolling it up on at least one side, away from my face so I can comfortably sleep on my side. This means the rollers are not uniform on my head but that's ok.:)

Cool, God bless ya girl. I don't think my tenderhead could stand it though. That would be a guaranteed sleepless night for me. I have to find some way of using those rollers though, they must get hair really nice and straight. One of these days, I've gotta do a ponytail rollerset with them, on dry hair for a few hours maybe. Hmmm.... :scratchch

I love airdrying my relaxed hair NOW (AGAIN I THANK ISIS BECAUSE SHE WAS MY INSPIRATION) Because I found a method that works.

-- clarify with tressemme vit. c
-- wash with elucence moisturizing poo
-- deep condition with paul mitchell super charged
-- rinse and squeeze out excess water
-- apply elucence moisture balancing conditioner
-- allow to air dry (all does not dry smooth but it's ok because of the next step which is . . .
-- rollerset air dried hair using jojoba oil and elucence moisture balancing conditioner mixed together

WORKS LIKE A CHARM. I NEVER THOUGHT I WOULD EVER BE ABLE TO AIRDRY AND I FOUND THIS METHOD 2 YEARS AFTER I FIRST ATTEMPTED TO AIRDRY. I THINK A GOOD CONDITIONER AND LEAVE IN HAS A LOT TO DO WITH IT

For the longest time I have frustrated with my hair. Simply because I wasn't sure how to airdry and achieve straight results. I have wrapped for years but it always leaves the obligatory anorexic side which is worse on my fine hair. I tried leaving it out - frizzy, dry ends. I'm way too lazy to rollerset my entire head after my co washes. I'm a regular bantu knot outer but that's when I want that sexy, curly look and again too lazy to do it regularly so what was I to do, hence my frustration. Then the other day it hit me. :hammer: After co washing, I added my detangler, leave in and surge oil to seal and combed by hair back and put two large rollers on the ends. I was nervous wondering how it would turn out. A few hours later when it felt dry, I took the rollers out with shaking hands and voila! My ends were soft, bouncy and straight. I kept running my fingers through it in amazement. No more flat ironing to get the back straight!! I can now truly stick to my low heat regimen.:D

ETA: The hair has to be dripping wet when the rollers are put in or those pesky frizzy ends will emerge.

maybe I need to not towel dry my hair, when I do this....I am trying it again tonight...I tried just oil and conditioner on one side and then conditioner oil and serum on the other, to see what works best.

I am curious to see how it comes out. I will check back in tomorrow. I really hope it works for you.

When I air dry, I just let it dry from a dripping wet state. I let the ends dry sorta grouped together. I dont finger comb until it is 75% dry. This works well for me to avoid any frizzies.

Bump....I don't remember my results with my third ponytail rollerset, I really wanna remove this weave to try stuff again.

The last time I airdried I used a light, no alcohol, foam setting lotion (bronner brothers) with a little bit of oil. Halfway through drying I applied a little more oil. I didn't roller set or use any rollers on the ends because I usually airdry one day and the next day flat iron. Just another suggestion to experiment with. I hope you find something that works for you. Good luck!

I posted in another thread recently that I tried airdrying (2nd time) using Sylver2's method of tying my wet hair (after the leave-ins, serum) with a satin scarf very tight, letting the back hang out and rolling the ends (not the whole length) with magnetic rollers.

I did it with just a few rollers on dripping wet hair, overnight. The result was actually surprising, the top and sides of my hair were very smooth and very close to my head like a skullcap and the ends were smooth and bouncy. The length seemed poufy to me and drew up a bit, but not frizzy. Just big.

I've worn it this way twice now and I do like it, saves a lot of time from rollersetting the usual way. I received compliments too. Next time, I'll use 3 giant green rollers for the hair hanging in the back of my scarf and roll up the length all the way.

I do what everyone else does. When my hair is somewhat damp, I make 4-6 plaits, put some type of product on the ends, and use perm rods.

I divide my hair into four plaits, and spray them generously with leave in conditioner(CHI Keratin Mist). I air dry for 1-3 hours. I think that my hair air dried best when I applied CHI Silk Infusion(serum) instead of the leave-in conditioner, but it's so expensive for the little amount that you get, that I have to use the leave-in, and not the serum.

hmm this is a good question...usually when I airdry I put NTM serum on my ends along with protective break-free daily conditioner. This helps to keep my ends straighter and strong.
