I was speaking to my mom yesterday bout the fact that i am in my one month post relaxer with the aim of a 3 month stretch and that the ng was already driving me nuts! and she suggested i retouch the ng at the hairline only as its my most trouble area the middle of my hair is a lot easier to look after so i was wondersing if you guys ever done this or what you think i could do? :perplexed

The hairline is usually very fine and fragile compared to other areas of the hair. I would recommend leaving it alone.

You could try smoothing it with coconut oil or serum and tying a scarf on it (see Sylver's Fotki album for her method) or you could style your hair so the hairline isn't exposed.

I wouldn't - if you want to smooth out your hairline you can do so my blowing out ur roots or flat iron at a low temp.

Yes i am not sure either, as my mom relaxes her hair every 6- 9mths she is half indian but it has no effect on my hair, so i think she gets away with it because she does very little to her hair and its grown past mine months ago. But she did say she sometimes retouches the from after 3 months so she suggested i retouch the front every six weeks

seems like it would be damaging to your hairline it the long run. learn to embrace the waviness at the edges and work with it instead of against it, it will help to keep your hairline in tact. I don't think it's a good idea as a habit.

I agree.

It's funny how the parts that looks the worst while stretching (on my head) are the most fragile. I like my nape and hairline to be sleek but it's so fragile I wouldn't dare of doing this.

I have heard of people relaxing their nape when they have short hair cuts when the nape is on display, etc. Then and only then would I do it, but I have to be planning on keeping that short hairstyle.

I agree with this.

We're not "natural" if we do this.

that's what i was thinking.

but to OP - I'd say leave it alone and try alternative means of straightening it out.

good luck on your stretch!!

I'll phrase... I think it's called halo when mostly naturals do it. :wink2: I wasn't trying to start anything I swear. :)

It's called a halo when anybody does it. I know some people who do halos on the regular, and honestly I would not recommend it. You don't want to expose the most fragile part of your head to the most frequent, regular damage. :nono: Your hairline is the area that can take it least in the long run. :ohwell:

Your hairline halo might slowly start to become a permanently bald one.

There is something called stiff head that works amazing on smoothing new growth. You can get it a sally's, It is like a wax stick you will be amazed at how it smooths your hair line.
