Hello wonderful and knowledgeable ladies. I have been a long time lurker and I am finally ready to do the right thing and make my hair healthy.

My hair is very thick, however, it breaks/sheds very easily. When I run a comb/hands through it, many strands come out. I have also taken the strand and pulled on both ends and it pops quickly (what I understand as a strad test). My goal is bra strap length and here is how I plan on achieving it.

Relaxers - once every 12 weeks

Prepoo - once a week - divide hair into 4 sections and leave on for 1 hr
olive oil
egg
queen helen oil

Shampoo - once a week - spray diluted solution directly on scalp
Nexxus
Paul Mitchell

Deep Condition - once a week - divide hair into 4 sections and leave on for 1 hr
Hair Mayo

Style - no heat, roller set
Fermadoyl
Carrot oil (leave-in)
Infusium 23

I have posted pics of my hair in my fotki. I believe my hair is 4a/b. I really would like this to work so if anyone has any suggestions please feel free to post.

Thanks for everything and I'll see my Houston ladies this weekend!

I am sure you'll get a ton of advice at your meetup this weekend but, just from a glance at your regimen, it seems like you're using a whole lot of protein (egg, hair mayo, infusium, etc.) and very little moisture. I would recommend a seriously moisturizing deep conditioning treatment.

On another note, your hair looks so beautiful and thick in your avatar!

Thank you Katt! That's is the main problem with my hair. It "looks" beautiful, but I don't think its healthy because of the breakage.
I just ordered amla oil (6 bottles for $26, free shipping) and I will use that to deep condition.

ITA way way too much protein. There's not even a moisturizing conditioner listed. Try moisturizing by putting conditioner on your dry hair w/ heat.

The turn around will be immediate if that's the problem. :yep:

First of all, welcome to the board!! :yep:
I totally agree with Sareca that all of the protein you're using may be the cause of your breakage. I would definitely get rid of some of it and incorporate a moisturizing conditioner. Good luck and HHG!

WELCOME, Amadi! :D Good luck on the way to BSL!

Thank you all for the help and advice. Today is the first day I am starting this regimen (I am actually sitting under the dryer with egg and jojoba oil for the pre-poo now :) ). I have the Nexxus Humectress (sp?) conditioner, but I don't know if that is a deep conditioner.

You can certainly use it was a deep conditioner. :yep:

:hiya2: Welcome. I have to agree with Katt and the rest of the ladies. Moisture is the key. I came to the board with dry, shedding, breaking hair and it was simply a case of adding moisture. I began moisturizing daily and doing cowashes and moisturizing deep conditioners and it all started to fall into place. You should consider looking for a moisturizing leave in so that you are not using that Infusium all the time. Some other excellent moisturizing deep conditioners include Design Essentials Stimulations, Aveda Brilliant, Kenra Moisturizing. You could do some searches; there are a lot of great threads with great reviews on moisturizing products. Good luck on your quest :yep:

do you mind me asking where you ordered your amla oil from?

thanks in advance,

I agree with Sareca. Sounds like a good regimen but you have a lot of protein going on there that's not balanced with a moisturizing conditioner or leave-in. My hair really hates harsh protein. In fact, it may cause breakage/shedding to worsen. So sometimes it takes time to find a nice balance between protein and moisture. Looks like you're well on your way with the deep conditioning once a week. ;)

Welcome and good luck! :trophy:

Your hair looks nice, thick and healthy. You grow, girl! :clapping:

Protein was my nemesis when I began as well. Definitely a deep mositure treatment, following the protein and on its own - maybe you can cut the hour to half and then do half for moisture?

I found the Infusium to be very strong, if you use it, maybe you can dilute it with distilled water?

Do you have a mosituring leave-in and a light oil to seal afterwards?

Other than the dryer for conditioning, are you using heat? It's hard to get used to, but your hair will appreciate the lack of heat and heat appliances if you can work it. If you are using heat, do you have a heat protectant? Wash/condition once per week means you can limit heat to those times maybe?

Thanks! I would have never known I can "overdo" it with protein. When you say the Infusium can be to stong what do you mean? I have/had been unsuccessful with combing my hair when it was wet (alot of tangling and shedding) and when I used the Infusium it made it a bit easier to comb, but it left this film that made my hair feel really hard (but it was still wet). It know it sounds weird but I guess that is the best way I can explain it. I will dillute it and use a spray bottle next time(if needed...i'm hoping my deep conditioner will work to untangle and make my hair stronger).

The oil and seal I used was the IC Fantasia Oil Moisturizer and Organic RS Tea Tree Oil Moisturizer. I also have liquid Tea Tree Oil that I started putting on my ends every other day (they are really dry).

I am TRYING not using heat as much. I used it for my pre-poo, deep conditioner, and roller set. I'm guessing that once a week should be fine but that may be too much?

I thank everyone for helping me. I am really trying to get this down so my hair will be healthy and I can save $$$ by not going to the hairdresser every week.

Your hair looks healthy and pretty :-)
Maybe add more moisture to your regimen and do some protective styles..
