Listen to this ladies. :ohwell:
The hair has been color treated so badly that it's broken off and now has become really thin.
My gf doesnt want to sacrifice looking cute, so she still wants to be able to wear her hair out and stuff and will possibly wear her hair back in a ponytail. :perplexed

So right now I'm trying to find out products that I can recommend to her to regain the thickness of her hair. She says that she cant wash her hair often because she's going to have an afro because she has some serious roots

Please gimme some responses so that I can tell her what to do. Thanks so much

I've never colored my hair but I've read on this board the importance of babying color-treated hair because many times (as it sounds like with your GF), it becomes way too dry. Moisture and having a good protein balance is important. How is the Humectress working for her?

ETA: I know a lady whom this happened to and she went to a good, professional stylist. Her breaking, thinning hair was saved by whatever the stylist did and soon her hair began to thrive. I usually don't recommend a stylist except for emergencies like this or for those who have never self-relaxed or colored their hair.

This happen to me recently, I have coloured my hair several times, but unfortunately instead of allowing the colour to grow out, re colour my highlight again. First cut out the damaged part, use Avocado butter as a pre-shampoo hair treatment available from www.burtsbees.com, also she should get long and strong from rush industries.com, plus make a herbal tea, use two tablespoons of marshallow, one teaspoon of rosemary and nettle and two teaspoons of horsetail, put the herbs in a large container and pour boiling hot water and leave overnight, once cool, strain and add aloe vera gel, rosewater and glycerine and mix thoroughly add as a final rinse and do on a regular basis. The hair will get thick again. Also made mixture of aloe vera gel, castor oil and avocado butter and put on the hair, that will also help to get it soft and add thickness.

Is it shedding like crazy? If it is then she needs to do a garlic treatment.

She also needs to use a deep conditioner for color treated hair after EVERY wash.

She doesnt do anything to her own hair besides oil her scalp at nights and sleep in a doo rag.
She says that it's not dropping out anymore but it's really thin and she doesnt want it to remain that way. So she goes to the hairdresser for a wash and whatever every 3 weeks and does a touch up every 5. I am trying to tell her that she shouldnt do a touch up again so soon and stretch but she just wont sacrifice looking cute.

Valerie: I edited my post for some questions:

1. How much water do you pour over the herbs?
2. Are you using Herbal extracts (liquid herbs) or the powered form?
3. After straining the 'cooled' herbal mixture (above), how much of the Aloe Vera gel, Rosewater and Glycerine do you add for the final rinse?

4. For the second mixture, what are the measurements for the Aloe Vera, Castor Oil and Avocado Butter? How long do you leave this on the hair?

I went to the site for Long and Strong:

http://www.rushindustries.com/longnstrong.html

Were you speaking of the Vitamins or the direct hair product listed in the link above?

Valerie..thank you again and again so much. God bless you. I thanked you below, but didn't list my questions. I was so excited about this hair treatment that you shared... (Oh Well!)

Valerie: Thank you! This is power-packed and I'm going to include this in my regime. :)

From my personal experience, when I color, I must use an intensive protein treatment (like Aphogee) and keep my hair very moisturized. I did put a cellophane treatment in my hair a couple of months ago. Even though it is not as drying as a permanent color, it still lifts the cuticle to deposit color which makes hair very fragile. I must treat my hair very carefully: just roller setting, no heated appliances (I only use a hooded dryer for deep conditioning), and protective styles. Most importantly, as Isis wrote, the right protein and moisture balance is key, as with any chemically treated hair. Once the breakage is under control and her hair regains strength, your gf's hair thickness will return. KeraCare and Nexxus both are good product lines for hair recovery (they are what I use on my colored-treated, relaxed hair), but there are many others out there that are just as good. HTH!!
