I have been drinking these lately (we always have them in our frig at work) Anyway, check out the nutritional facts...what do you think?

Nutrition Facts: serving size 1 can; calories 10; fat 0g; sodium 200mg; total carb 3g; sugars og; protein less than 1g; NACIN 100%; VITAMIN B 6 250%; VITAMIN B 12 80%; PANTOTHENIC ACID 50%

I love these little drinks (yes they contain caffeine...not good)

But it would be great if drinking them would also aid in my quest for Waist Length hair.

whoa. pantothenic isnt that b5??? wait what is 50%? how many grams, milligrams is that? and what is b6? and b12? i want to try to add b5 to my regime but it would nice to add something else for a boost? how does this taste? God bless you all.

I thought the same thing, 3 weeks ago while studying for a test 3 o clock in the morning (trying to stay up). I looked at the ingredients, and I thought wow, this is the same stuff in my GNC Ultranourishair.

Lee,

I shouldn't post this at all. I have been wondering what else is in those drinks. A friend of mine is a techie. He drinks several a day. I saw him about a month ago and well his little 'fro had turned into a massive 'fro
smile.gif
His diet is fairly typical and he's been slurping these things for quite some time.

I would just say be careful if you are sensitive to caffeine. Too much caffeine is not great for your hair or anything else. But, please, I should not talk because I do drink a fair amount of tea...oolong tea by the pot

Wow, I never checked the ingredients! I love to drink one on my way to the gym. It totally boosts my workout. I might start drinking 2 a day now.

Hi!

Could it be the taurine it contains?

This is RedBull's nutr.info from their web site:
carbonated water
sugar (sucrose, glucose) 27 g
taurine 1000 mg
glucuronolactone 600 mg
caffeine 80 mg
vitamins
niacin 20 mg
vitamin B6 5 mg
pantothenic acid 5 mg
vitamin B12 0.005 mg

Further, it contains inositol, citric acid/sodium citrate as acidifier, colours (caramel, riboflavin) and flavours.

About taurine, they say this:

"Taurine is a conditionally essential amino acid. Taurine is naturally occurring in our body, mainly in muscle, brain, heart and blood. A person weighing 70 kg has approximately 70 g of taurine distributed throughout the body. Put another way, a 70 kg person naturally has in his body 70 times the amount of taurine contained in one can of Red Bull® Energy Drink. Taurine is also contained in the daily diet (scallops, fish, poultry) and in most infant formular.

"Conditionally essential" means that in some situations or under certain conditions it is necessary to supply the bodywith taurine. Relative taurine loss via the urine can occur in situations of high stress and physical exertion. In these situations the excretion of taurine via the urine increases and taurine cannot be synthesised in the body in sufficient amounts.

Taurine is a non-protein-building amino acid. "

Hhmmm...

This is a compliment. Anyone thats been on this forum or some others knows Jade21 knows 'hair'!
smile.gif

Seriously....I'm gonna look into this.

Wouldn't taking a b-complex supplement and amino acids have similar or better results w/o the caffeine? And be cheaper?

taurin hmm
scratchchin.gif
got me really interested now coz i need all the length i can get for my summer hair growout challenge.. does it have any side effects?

This is weird, but the taurine is actually good in terms of the overall product formula. It contributes to the uptake of all the B vitamins in the formula, plus it also encourages the interaction of the B-6 particularly.

In other words, it's like a great balancer in terms of the caffeine because that's not all that much caffeine generally speaking. I have not tried Red Bull, ALTHOUGH I have been tempted 'cause just about everyone I know who has said it tastes good and they feel extremely alert.

But, with the taurine, it's like all the catechins in the green tea which cause people to say they are alert and calm at the same time. You can find taurine in a lot of the herbal sleep formulas. Same thing with the PMS ones.

And, with the taurine's interaction with the B-6 in particular, you know that's helping to produce seratonin in the brain. You need plenty of that to sleep well. And, sleep is necessary for healthy hair growth

Y'all made my day with your positive comments

Cheers,

Jade

i picked up the mountain dew version of red bull (i forgot the name). it had about the same amount of vitamins as red bull (which the store was out of). it gave me the "alert, yet calm" feeling. i need to buy a case!

Thanks Jade! Can always count on you to break stuff down!

DSTDIVA: Yep, we get it by the case as well. We're all out of it right now, so I am going to go to the store and buy a stash until the office supply comes in!

And yes, it gives me a really alert feeling. I started taking it becasue I wanted to be more energized when I get home to deal with my son. It works very well!

Its kind of a strange to read this
smile.gif
simply because during the time I attended Real Estate School my friend and I would drink red bulls all the time to stay alert because the classes was 10hrs a day. Londondiva can confirm the growth I told her about right before I joined the board . I would drink at least two a day the only think I was taking Maxi-Hair during that time as well but every now and then but I did get an unusual amount of growth during that time. I don't know
scratchchin.gif
.it makes me wonder.

Long time no see girl

How much growth did you think you were getting at this time on these drinks.
RB is about 99p $1.50 over here and I can't see myself spending all that money on these drinks. I think I'll stick with my MSM in water
smile.gif

Hey Londondiva,
I just PM you, it's so good to see back
wave.gif
, remember when we first met and I told you I was getting about 1 1/2 or a little more a month. That is so strange to read this information because during that time I told you that I was taking maxi-hair before I joined the boards and I thought all of that growth was contributed to maxi-hair. I guess I'm going to get back on the red bulls and see what happens. I'm taking puritan pride and maxi-hair I wonder what will happen if I added the red bull. Maybe I will reach bra-strap by the end of the summer
laugh.gif

I tried one this morning. The taste was decent, but I couldn't tell a difference in my mood. However the cost is prohibitive. $1.99 each!
shocked.gif
for less than 12oz! I wonder how much you save if you buy by the case.

Thanks for the breakdown, Jade!

Kia,
They're actually 110 calories each, I'm looking at the can right now.

BTW, I love your little dancing man in your avatar. He is too cute!

Jen

There is a sugarfree and a regular version of red bull as well. I like the regular, but since I have been trying to cut my sugar intake lately, I might have to try to sugarfree.

LD,

how do you drink that msm? i bought some pp msm powder and it was so bitter, that the can is still sitting there being ignored.

Boy with all these liquid helpers I see a new brand of PJism emerging.

Running to the store for Red Bull now....:D Hopefully there's no oil in it !

Be carefull everyone! My girlfriends son drank these to stay awake for a job one night and ended up having a mild heart attack. The ER doctor said it was attributed to RedBull and that it is one of the most dangerous drinks on the market.

Why is it dangerous
shocked.gif
?? Because of the caffeine???

dstdiva,

I get my msm from this source http://www.a1msm.co.uk in the form of cystals. I put about 1 teaspoon or more which is equal to 4,000mg of MSM and put it in a 1.5 litre bottle of water. I can't taste it though. It works wonders on my hair with softer texture, but I'm one of the ones that doesn't mind the taste.
