I don't know if it was one specific product or the combination.

Last year, I was on a road trip of sorts :driver: - 5 countries! There was rain in 4 of them and a snow storm in another. Did my hair poof up - NO.

I was taking out the rollers(airdry ponytail set), as I received the last minute offer for this trip. This is all that I did right before leaving:

1. pre-poo with shikakai , amla and Dr. Harushka(sp??) neem oil for hair (30 min)

2. shikakai shampoo bar

3. Schwarzkopf conditioner(delish)

4. Schwarzkopf leave-in (liquid) + amla oil on ends + a little John Freida serum(the orange coloured stuff)

5. took rollers out in a hurry, packed a bag and was picked up to leave ...
HAIR RAINED on in

D, Germany, NL,BE, F ..... (and back again) ... When I returned, my hair was still straight

NOTE: It's not necesary to include step #5 :lachen:

I would have continued using this regimen, but for some reason my scalp seems to get very flaky using shikakai. If i could figure out how to avoid that, I would use this on a regular basis!

ETA: I had a lot of newgrowth at the time. I was in the midst of a serious transition during that time.

Hi Ballerina  Did you use the Swastik Shakakai bar? Part of the reason I think you may have had some trouble is that shikakai is supposed to be VERY stripping. Your scalp probably just dried out. You just use that every so often IMHO. Perhaps you should look into Hesh's Shakakai shampoo. I've used that too and it's not nearly so stripping.

I think it may be the John Freida (orange bottle). I use that on my hair and it never poofs in the rain or humidity. Just a thought.

I use the bar and don't find it stripping at all. I LOVE IT! I feel like my hair still has its dignity after I use the bar, unlike with other shampoos.

ETA: And I've never experienced flakes with it, natural or texlaxed.

Opps, I'm just now seeing this. Sorry. Thanks for the suggestion. Do you still use this shampoo? When I use the shampoo bar it's usually Godrej Shikakai 3in1.

I think that some of the problem was where I was at. Whenever I'm in that "area" of the world, my scalp /skin is just horrible. I don't have the same problem here. On occasion, yes, but not regularly like I do there :nono:

I may do an experiment and try the same regimen for a month and see how my scalp reacts. Then I will know for sure.

I can test that out this week and weekend for fun. There will be plenty of heat and humidity (from the weather not the date :lachen: unless ... ). I have a beach date ... weather still permitting that is.

Interesting. How long did your hair stay straight exactly...I'm assuming you're natural too?

No, I was not natural. I don't know how many months post I was at the time. I'm curious now too. I'm going to check some of my old posts to see if I mention exactly how far I was into "that" transition.
