Just wanted to say that I have been taking GNC ultranourishair for a month to see what kind of growth I attain. I have been obsessing about phytospecific relaxer and texturizing, etc. While I was in the process of making up my mind on perm/no perm I decided to see how much length I can attain using hair vitamins. I gained 1 inch of growth in one month versus my usual half inch. So I am going to continue taking these pills and see where it gets me and if it will continue to aid in growth or if my body will "adjust" to it. My sister is hair obsessed as well, and is always researching stuff, so actually this month she "prescribed" for me to add Shen Min to the mix to see what happens. Here are the stats from May 10th: top of head 10", sides 9" and back/nape 7". (We used a tape measure). As of June 10th all of the above measurements are an inch longer. So, in case anyone was wondering about this product, I give it a thumbs up so far! (BTW, I think I am staying natural for now).

I am 4a/3c (definite pencil circumference curls on top and nape, and then more like the pen coils size curls on sides. Of course all this means is "bushy" when combed out

I have been taking those for a about 3 months now. In the beginning I notice A LOT of growth I was hairy everywhere and had to shave my underarms like every other day. But for some reason I am not seeing those results anymore. I'm not sure if the pills stopped working or what. I also started surging about 2 weeks ago and I got 1 inch of growth this month. I'm don't know if its from the surge or the vitamins. But I am getting kind of leary about the ultranourishair like maybe it only works for a few weeks then you have to lay off of them and take them again. It may just be how my body absorbs things.

Yeah, that's what I am trying to avoid-my body getting used to it. So hopefully, "mixing things up" will mean continued accelerated growth. I may lay off of them after this month and do Shen Min alone and then try Shen Min with prenatal vitamins.

I think I may do the same too. I noticed such growth from them the first month so i think I will do them every other month.

I have been taking them for about 4 months had great results
then I went on a vitamin break for a month just starting taking them again.

I just finished taking hair skin and nails and I am going to give shen ming and nourishair a try this year. I had already taken nourshair with good results but I stopped bc I wanted to try something new.

i started breaking out with acne while taking the ultranourish hair vitamens so i stopped for a while. hopefully it was just a one time thing and i'll just try again later

This thread reminds me that I need a new bottle of ultranourishair. I've only been taking MSM lately.

man i dont believe in that body getting used to stuff. i mean wouldnt they put that on the label when you purchase it. Take such and such this month. Then something different next month. I just think its what your body wants to do or maybe you did something different externally.

How in the world do you take those horse pills?
I CANT take them, I crush them and they taste REALLY nasty. I have a bottle thats 3/4 full and I really wanna take them but I'm so scary of that nasty taste.
Same thing goes for my protein shakes.. nAsTy

As for protein shakes, so far for me, the Designer Whey shakes are the best.... love that chocolate flavor!

I totally believe that your body can get used to something. Take for instance people that take penicilin to cure everything. Eventually they are going to need something stronger because their body has become immune to the antibiotics

ANaturalBrotha-
The thing is, is that medically speaking, it has been documented that your body can develop a "tolerance" for things-meaning "get used to." As an example, think of all the warnings about taking antibiotics when they are not indicated. So if you actually need an antibiotic for an infection, they either won't work because maybe the person has been taking them for viral infections - like for a cold instead of what they are intended for (bacterial infections-like an abcessed tooth) OR the docs have to find a different derivitive of the antibiotic to treat the patient. Lots of people abuse antibiotics in particular, because symptoms from a cold can resemble infection. (Sore throat, thick mucous etc.)So that is why we hear warnings about this practice. It is just a natural function of the body to either adapt or reject. So it is a fact that your body has the potential to get used to anything that you put in it and, therefore, the potential exists for the medicine, vitamin etc. to not work as it once did, if at all. I am saying the "potential" is there. Not that it definitely will occur. So that is why I think its good to switch up every now and then. Also, there are warnings placed on some products which indicate that you should take only what you are instructed to take, sometimes at specific intervals. These types of warnings, though not specifically speaking to body tolerance, "imply" that there is a certain way that meds/vitamins work. Hope this is helpful.

Hi Lillian-
Yes the pills are big, but I've never had a problem with pills. I just take a big gulp of water and down them. One thing about crushing or even breaking up certain pills is that you can take away the effectiveness by doing this. This goes especially for pills with the coating on them as the coating really serves two functions. Ideally, heh, they're supposed to make it easier to swallow Ha! The other part is that the coating is designed to withstand the acids in your stomach that break things down. So in essence, your stomach breaks down the coating as the pill(s) travel through your digestive system. Then by the time you get to the absorption stage, you'll have all of the ingredients (in tact and in the intended dosage) to disseminate throughout the bloodstream and reach where and what it is supposed to reach. By crushing or halving these kinds of pills you are exposing the contents and your stomach acids breaks down the coating and destroys most of the pills contents before it can reach your bloodstream. So you've lost a lot (not saying all) of the effectiveness of the pill. I learned the hard way! Teehee!

AJamericanDiva,
Is your shake grainy?

Not at all, neither is it thick like porridge! That's why I love it. I feel like I'm drinking a chocolate shake. I make it with 2% reduced fat milk. I used to drink Protoplex Lite, but this one takes the cake for me. Girl, I drink this bad boy three times a day. I started doing this the very end of May. (I really started doing the shakes because I really don't like eating meat and I had to get protein from somewhere... furthermore, my hair will benefit, so it's like killing two birds with one stone!

) I buy the 5lb tubs for like $23....

I tried that spirutein shake from GNC. That stuff was THICK! I didn't really like it especially because the vanilla one was a light green color. Maybe I couldn't get past that. But I took that thing twice. I also take the ultranourishair and a multi vitamin. Well I took all three one day and I thought I was gonna pass the hell out. My head was spinning. I don't know what is in the three of them but I guess I got too much of something. I'm thinking Zinc cause there is zinc in all three of those. But I know I am not drinking that stuff again and I haven't taken the multi since.

for those who take prenatal vit and are not pregnant, not to scare you, but be very careful in taking them. There are harmones in them that can give u an adverse reaction...ie: migraines, body aches, etc. Don't be fooled. prenatal vits are not more potent than regular vits. My cousin found this out the hard way and i want to spare anyone here of the health probs she got (mentioned above) I hope all have a happy and healthy new year

but you are talking about medications not natural supplements.

Your body will acclimate to vitamins just as it will to antibiotics. I put a message on the board about a year ago ago about this. I have always taken my vitamins everyday for three weeks out of each month, then I skip a week and only take my daily, but not the ones like biotin, silica, cysteine, etc. My hair always grows at least one to one and a half inches a month. And when I start back taking them, I always have a growth spurt the first two weeks. Believe me this works. Ask some of the other ladies who do this.

I used to take this when I first started out on the boards. I'll be getting some to take again, I'll be sure to go 3 weeks on, 1 week off. Thanks for the tip.
